How do you grade performance, though? What if a DPS is doing really well, but then the other DPS runs at them with an AOE circle and kills them? Do they negatively get affected by someone else's mistake? And how do you grade a good DPS against a good Tank? Or a good Healer?

If anything, I'd say that there should maybe, MAYBE be a +5 to your rolls if you don't die in a fight/Raid system.

I think the closest thing to a good solution would be to make commendations more valuable. An algorithm will never be able to accurately determine how valuable someone was to a group, but at least with commendations each player can choose who they personally think was most valuable. As it stands though, commendations aren't worth much. The rewards are all in all just ugly versions of things we already have access to.

I didn't mean to kill you! Or not raise you!

Yeah, it opens the possibility for trolling or griefing.

Commendations typically go to Tanks or Healers, so the only thing that does is make it harder for DPS to get things.

Not a good idea. While it sucks if people are outright expecting to be carried, there are legitimate reasons why someone may not be performing at the same level. And that doesn't even call into question how you are defining a tank/healer performing well. If you want to ensure parties are to your liking... that is what PF is for.

This is true, but that falls to each individual player to decide. Its not a perfect solution, but I'd rather have that than an algorithm subject to all the faults discussed in this thread. I do think people would try harder in gameplay/attitude if the commendation carrot was more rewarding.

Currently you can't commendate in pre-form parties, but joining as a replacement bypasses this restriction. Sure it's a lot of hassle to go to but some players will do anything they can to cheat a system if possible.

If you're kicking people to make an almost pre-formed party into a complete one to get loot, why not just queue as a complete one and decide who gets the loot and who passes it?

It's kind of annoying to see players die to easy mechanics 4 times, contribute nothing, and then win the loot with a 95 roll while the people who actually did the work lose out.
It would be difficult to implement this kind of system in duty finder where party member performances:
    - depend on each others
    - have different complex metrics to be measured
    - can be affected by unforeseen or unfortunate circumstances

They were talking about commendations, not loot.
