    Performance-based roll system

Any ideas on how we can make rolling on loot somewhat performance-based? I'm mainly talking about the non-savage duty funder type stuff like dungeons, normal raids, trials, etc. It would be nice to reward people who perform with a +20 to whatever they would've rolled so that there's an incentive to do your best instead of letting people carry you. It's kind of annoying to see players die to easy mechanics 4 times, contribute nothing, and then win the loot with a 95 roll while the people who actually did the work lose out.

I welcome a civil discussion on this matter and wish you the best of luck on coming to a conclusion.

Unless it was a very light system (like you contributed 2% value to the fight, you get nothing*) I don't think it could work. If the system is strong (bias generated between good and great players) there are so many issues even if the system calculated everything fairly and perfectly.

Imagine normal players attempting content, playing as best as they can (and that being decent to good), and they just keep getting paired with that one guy who plays perfectly and so they're even more disenchanted with the game as RNGeus hasn't been kind on top of being not given priority roll (double wam). "Oh great there is a awesome player in this fight, might as well leave now".

If the calculations are not fair it's even worse, say for some reason the system doesn't discount over-healing so a healer inflates their numbers and no one can compete. Okay it counts over-healing so now certain healing jobs have a harder time winning lots than others. Not even counting the mess of certain actions taking down others, for example a tank who uses a cooldown lowers the healing score (takes less damage) or a tank may even heal others . . even more reasons for people to be annoyed with each other ("DONT YOU DARE HALLOWED GROUND THAT TANK BUSTER, I NEED THIS MOUNT" lol).

Just a colossal controversial mess waiting to happen lol.

*But this probably wouldn't catch most of the really bad members, maybe some but I imagine a few are just not good but still trying hard enough. If you bias'd against them then again you'll probably start rocking a boat ready to be torn apart.

How could you even do that?

    How do you rate that?

For dps it would be a dps race?

The system is fine as it is. If you dont like the roll then you have the option to form a group and call out what you want.

Duties aren't like FATEs where you get a reward based on the tier obtained, and even then the weaker or less contributing player can just join a party who can do all the work for them yet still get the full reward in the end

It is frustrating when you go out of you way to perform well in a duty and you see one or two not making the effort or dying a lot. Though we shouldn't confuse inactivity/lack of interest with trying and still dying, most content is intended to be accessible and rewarding for the casual player regardless of how they perform. The majority of content can also be run several times to obtain any intended loot, a lot unsynced but all of them can be PF'd with the Loot Master having control so that's probably the best option to look at.

"Sorry dude, you're playing too well, you're going to screw our loot over"

You have been removed from the party.

On one hand, it's one thing to discourage people who only want to be carried through everything, and make no effort to better themselves or contribute to the party. On the other hand, a system like this could also hurt new and inexperienced players who my be trying their best and listen well to advice, but still need time and practice to get better. You could argue that it could be motivation for these players to keep working until they're good enough to update their gear and move on, but that seems a bit harsh to me. This would mostly affect leveling dungeons and also the 50/60/70 dungeons in terms of trying to keep up with gear. Even taking those out of the equation, I'm not sure it's entirely fair to put those who are inexperienced but doing their best to keep up at a disadvantage for rolls in trial, alliance, and raid content either. If they actively worked to contribute to the group, I see no reason to penalize them for not being as familiar with the content and/or their jobs as those with more experience under their belt.

well ok since you aren't specifically talking about savage or ex content, having a performance based roll system doesn't make sense. since dungeon gear/normal raids are used for more casual players to gear up, and therefore having players who generally don't perform as well unable to get the gear they need to get better doesn't really make sense.

and yea I get the frustration of someone being carried and just a jerk and they win the stuff, but idk I've just learned to be happy for them? I've just become whatever about it. We don't know what is going on on their side of the screen maybe they are having issues completely unrelated to being lazy. So I say just let it be, be proud for yourself for carrying someone and be happy if they win something. and who knows maybe they'll be grateful to you.

    Sounds like a terrible idea.
