As a small sidenote- I would contend patches are delivery on the expansion promise. The expansion at launch is totally incomplete and patches are really late development on the expansion that slowly culminate in the complete expansion that was purchased.

At one point in the past it was expected that a released expansion was mostly complete... not that you would pay for it and it would dribble out over almost 2 years. This practice has annoyed me...because people forget that they pay for an expansion and then receive that expansion like it is some sort of gift 18 months later.

Okay, this whole statement just completely baffles me. What, exactly would you have MMOs do then? Release every single thing at once and don't release anything else except maintenance/hotfix patches until the next expansion two years later? That seems like a bad business model to have for an MMO.
