Yeah. Pagos was a living hell. I just powered through it and once I got the story and relic done I got out of dodge. I refuse to go back there ever again. And the way Pyros weapons are set up is another slap in the face with how sub stats work. Everything is random the number of sub stats, the type of sub stat, and the sub stat's potency. All of it.... Random.

I'm only doing Eureka now for the story about Baldesion which caught my interest ever since I first heard about it from my wif- er krile. I'm honestly enjoying the story but I tolerate the mechanics of Eureka.

IMO this whole expansion has been a big slap in the face to the casual playerbase who use the relic. Especially when they stated in the Eureka interview how they expected Eureka to be for Hardcore players only, yet they slap the casual player relic in there.

I am doing pyros now and I'm only going to do 1 weapon.

I hope the relic goes back to a HW/ARR format because in reality if Eureka didnt have the relic it would have died just like diadem

To be fair, the number of sub stats is not always random. Once you get a row of substats added, it's always gonna be there. Just the first couple of tries is random till you get 5 substats. Then it will always be 5 for that particular weapon.

As for Eureka vs anima grind, both have pros and cons. The cons of the Anima grind is that you will have to do the same steps for every weapon from scratch (of course the nerfs help in that) but the pros is that you get to do it on your own time and pace. As for Eureka, you don't have to relevel again to get another relic. That big grindy step is done once you do it once. Pagos was the biggest problem for everyone due to many issues (even the dev team agreed it was bad, since they weren't able to incorporate any feedback into it). In Anemos, It took me 3 days to get my RDM weapon at release day. But on Pagos around 3 weeks and it was torture. As for Pyros it only took 5 days. Furthermore, the more people in the zone that are higher in level, the quicker it is for lots of NMs to spawn and gain EXP. On release days you'd have to settle with NMs that the people in the zone can spawn and fight.

So if you exclude Pagos, it really is less grindy than Anima. I had to suffer Pagos again just to farm light for my DRK weapon (solo farming was the easiest lol). But as soon as I was done from that, I already had enough crystals to get the Pyros weapon as soon as I entered Pyrso. So the only thing I can say is good about Eureka (excluding Pagos), is that once you get one weapon, it's fairly easy to get the rest. You don't have to suffer all steps again even without nerfs.

This needs to happen. Hell, go for stormblood too and take relic out of that silly place.

Anima grind is a very liquid pace (I can't think of better word), it's easilly put as part of DF duties. Eureka being instanced is just way to blocky and meatier to depend on playerbase activity to chew. There's more than just fights in Anima though, there's also crafting and gathering their mats. Anima was a whole Happy Meal package, I can pick and eat fun as my stomach can take at the time, solo or team-wise. Whereas Eureka feels like whole buffet of meats where if you don't have 7-143 other people eating same as you then you're screwed. Some people get in the hype rush, got what they wanted, good for them, but not necessarily a good content. There's more to Anima than just "weapon" or "glamour" as we will call it in 5.0.

When I first finished HW MSQ, I asked myself "Is that it? The game is just playing a story once, then grind gear while waiting for the next one? Why do I need a sub for?". Don't get me wrong, individual contents are fine, but as a game as whole, I don't really feel like playing a game. People pointed to Anima then it made sense to me. Anima is that memento of the expansion. Call it glamour or "optional" content, but Anima was the only trademark content of ARR and HW. It made sense to pay sub for the expansion trademarks because of Anima. I'll try this simpler, SE. If you want to build a theme park, why do people need to buy seasonal tickets just to ride a single content? There's plenty games for that. Anima is that ugly t-shirt that said "I played ARR/HW as this job and I survived.". That's the whole point why putting it in Eureka was a big slap.

I personally would like to see a version like in FF 10 and Garlemald seems a perfect place for something like it.

Despite coming to terms with Eureka, I am getting really burnt out on it and I'm glad the next installment is the last.

But anima is a living sentient being. I'd like to see a new quest-line where you go to greater lengths to make your little aether child stronger.
i hate to break it to ya, but the Anima is also "just that, a weapon". what you derive as "meaningful" is just as valid as anyone who finds the Eureka grind as "meaningful".

I too miss the weapon having meaning to it. In ARR it was us following the tale of the old relics, and then recreating the legends of the Zodiac Braves. Each weapon had its own heritage, its own legacy and story. And that, in turn, collides with other story bits in the game, making it all the more worthwhile. Remember when you read that Shattoto brought down that meteor because she was bored? 60-70 BLM quest says hi.
And then in HW, the weapons' own stories became homogenized in the sense it was the same for all jobs (which slightly took away a bit of the replay value), but you got to sort of raise a child. You nurtured their growth. It was that extra bit of flavor that gave it meaning.

So far I'm almost done with Pagos' story and there isn't much story to it at all, with the weapons being an afterthought to the point you can go on with the story without having completed or even started the weapon. It's so obviously a carrot to get us into Eureka, but while that was the same for older relics, they had that extra something that didn't make it quite as bad for me. At least in HW and ARR they didn't pretend what we had to do to get the weapon was the best thing since sliced bread when it wasn't.

But even the Korean and JP player base hated Pagos. Eureka is the worst content to ever be created.
