Encyclopædia Eorzea II Bug Report Thread

Sorry Moose and Koji! I found some potential bugs...
As with the last thread, keep things neat, organized, polite, and well-intentioned! It should go without saying,

This thread is explicitly for reporting and discussing potential errata.

    HEADING: Amalj'aan

Here, the Amalj'aa tongue is labeled as "Amalj'aan", however, in game the Amalj'aa language has always been referred to as "Amaljic."

Hihibaru: "A letter you can’t make heads or tails of? Let me see here… Hmmm, this is written in Amaljic. You’re in luck! Just so happens I learned a spot of it back in the day, so as to expand my potential clientele. Seems the contents pertain to… Whoa! People trafficking!?"
Cenmin: "Ahem! I am fluent in over twenty dialects of both Amaljic and Ixali. I might add that learning the barbaric tongues was anything but simple. Both languages contain sounds that are all but impossible for members of the five races to reproduce. It took many years of rigorous training to acquire the knack, but the rewards for my efforts have made it all worthwhile."

Hey, if they're there, they're there! Thanks for getting the ball rolling in the right way.
Now to bite my fingernails until a lore-related bug appears (as opposed to grammatical ones).

(Though the lore book says Amalj'aan four times and Hihibaru says it once. Clearly the Lalafell is in need of fixin'... *looks side to side all shifty-like*)

I've got a small question. The Order of Nald'thal article on page 20 says that "Milvaneth Sacrarium, the temple of Nald, is crowded with pious merchants seeking to curry favor and fortune in this lifetime."

It's perhaps a technicality, but how can it possibly be crowded with merchants if it's still undergoing renovation? If it's only open to Ul'dahns, why not state this?

There is mention of a merchant intending to gain the Traders' favor, but this intent implies that it's a future effort. Additionally, the first lore book reads that "Now, only a chosen few may enter its halls at will, as the temple undergoes repair from the Calamity." It seems to me as though only a few people can get inside - adventurers certainly cannot.

Much love from an enthusiast of all things Ul'dah, and thank you especially for the addition of the Eighty Sins of Sasamo page!

I will defer to the lore team on this one for the final word, but I assumed that this oddity was the result of different phrasing reflecting different contexts, and that they just looked wonky when presented side-by-side. When I looked into this claim myself, I noted:

Dewlala doesn't seem to have the same abundance of time Lalai has, so the operation clearly isn't all on or all off, especially considering we see Sacrarium officials actively involved in the persecution of crimes (most notably in the Gladiator story arc). There's also a sidequest which shows merchants are still actively making attempts to curry favor with the lawmakers in spite of the sealing of the temple proper; it's not like Order is going to turn away wealthy patrons looking to craft legislation to their benefit through large donations.

Much like how there are some NPC merchant stalls that are always "on break," perhaps the Sacrarium just always happens to have repairs in progress when you show up. Or perhaps the repairs are so constant that they only allow a certain membership entry at specific times. The citations always come with some specific tacked on. "Only a chosen few may enter at will" or it has had no "visitors of late" or it is "sealed to outsiders". (That last one is English-exclusive, in fact - not even in the other languages.)

But, again, yes, when you put them side by side it does look like a fair place to ask for clarification, so I defer to the team.

(Perhaps the two scholars who wrote these two blurbs are of wildly different wealth brackets and both think they got it right. Fufufu.)

At least eight times did the heroes descend upon the land, each time led by charismatic leader who saw his noble men and women to victory.
The article a has been taken by the Lucavi.

The western two are comprised of two prominent piers, whereas the eastern ones feature the mercantile district of Kogane Dori, and the Ijin District home to foreign consulates and trading companies.
A comma that should be between 'district' and 'home' also appears to have been taken by the Lucavi.

HEADING: Chocobo Breeds / Flying Mounts

There are a few questions I had here:

Other examples included black chocobos and falcons.
Not so much a bug in the lore here, but it reads strangely because it links falcons (which weren't bred to fly) with the falcons and black chocobos, which were. I initially read this sentence as meaning that all three weren't bred specifically to fly, leading to more confusion in the following sentence:

Curiously, in neither of these cases were flying creatures domesticated...
The second question for clarification centers around the chocobos that can fly. It states that they were bred to achieve flight, but then turns around to say that

... various magicks were employed on black chocobos to reawaken their latent capacity for flight.
Did the effects of this then pass down over the years? Was that how the breeding worked? If it was accomplished through magicks, then I wonder if this would be possible in the quest I Believe I Can Fly:

...it is true that only chocobos black of feather are natural-born flyers
Finally, black chocobos are a specific breed of chocobos that have dark feathers, and we'll assume that the combined results of breeding and magic made it so that black chocobos can fly from birth.

Black chocobos are also part of a larger group of mounts: flightless chocobos also exist, which seems to me that they cannot and never will fly. Given this description in the book, as well as this section from the same page...

... at no point did they ever wholly replace horses and flightless chocobos which are...easier to breed
... TLDR; it seems like the overall ability for chocobos to be able to fly is genetic in the Encyclopædia, when in game, it's stated that some chocobos born flightless can learn to fly, regardless of breed.

I hope all this is at least decipherable!

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.
