Unfortunately, there is no ownership. You can spend hours trying to spawn a S rank and if some schmuck comes along and immediately tags it, you can do nothing except try to get credit yourself. If you reset it, they treat that as "griefing" since you technically denied someone else credit. It's a stupid system but the devs never intended for hunts to be open world content. They were designed for light and full parties. The community simply treats them like a world event. This wasn't an issue until expansions released since people couldn't solo them, thus pulling as a DPS was basically a good way for people to laugh while refusing to raise you afterwards. It's why you see less early pulling for Stormblood hunts.
Sure. We just won't invite others to the hunts we put the effort into spawning any more. Then we won't ever have to deal with all the entitled whining from others. o7You're about 4 years late for the GM response on this issue.

It's a perfectly justifiable warning in this case. It's what happens when you go and act like you own something in the open world where literally any player in that zone has access to.
Something that would have never spawned if not for the efforts of a select few.

Pretty much. The GM stance has long been made; If she desires to share the S/A-ranks with the community then its perfectly fine to wait and help as many people as possible. Just have her turn off shout chat and focus on getting credit the instant someone pulls and don't attempt to reset it. All she can do.
Still doesn't mean she or you own it. They'd have programmed it to be aggro locked to your party if that was the case. Open world mobs are free-for-all due to how they're coded.

That is true, but I imagine people will complain if the people actively hunting stop reporting them to the wider community which is all things like this are going to do.
Not really a Hunt, but I saw a Samurai try to solo Coeurlregina the other day. Was pretty funny.I've come across people killing ARR A ranks solo myself. I remember coming across a PLD recently in Western Thanalan soloing an A rank. Hope they didn't mind me jumping in but it was there and so was I. It is definitely someone's right to do so if they wish. Whoever finds it basically calls the shots. They can either report it, or they can go ham.
Probably. I just find it amusing when people think they own a hunt they spawn when the very design and how they're coded is an antithesis of that line of thought. It's fine to wait and help the community; but not all others share that sentiment, and you will encounter people that want to pull super fast so the best course of action is to simply help as many people as possible and let the quick puller be the target for people's ire and shrug it off when not as many people as you hoped managed to get credit; there'll always be more A-/S ranks to give to the community if you want.
This has been the stance for 4 years. It hasn't changed anything, except there's less people resetting them.
