I expected more. When Anemos dropped a lot of us wondered what took so long. The content was delayed and then when it got here it was mostly empty FATE grinding. I guess I was expecting more quests and things to do in the zone.

I was really hoping they would incorporate some of the things we had to do in v1 for our relics. I don't honestly remember the names of them anymore but there were things where you had to turn in supplies and defend a settlement, silver/gold bazaar back then and the chocobo escort missions and things of that sort. Maybe some bcnm type content or just something. Since they were basing it after xi I thought they may also be bringing in the fun open content from xi like campaign battles or besieged.
What I didn't expect was for them to take the worst and most complained about bits of xi like the lack of mounts, the grind, the deleveling and such and mix it together in a big pot of something awful, when xi had so much good in it too.
I heard there were going to be nms and while I assumed they would have drops we would need for the relic I didn't think it would be exclusively the way to obtain them. I thought there would be more misc drops from crafting items to glamour pieces.

Something fun and engaging.

For as big as the areas are and as much as Eureka makes you run around, there's not really much to do. I had hoped for an area I could explore and see glimpses of lore in notes left around or things I could glean from scenery. Instead, I feel completely ambivalent about the lore because I'm just walking around a giant sandbox to kill Mob #4721. Not helped by the story, rather than expanding on anything meaningful, is just large gaps of power leveling in between picking up rocks for Krile.
Why not do something with all this area that you have?

I was hoping for quests, hunts, fates that could be completed solo or in a group. Bounties and treasure. Instead we got a mindless mob kill grind and a anti casual content which pushed many players from the game due to the relic being tied to it.

WoW's Timeless Isles but FFXIV style.

The number one thing is that it does NOT have to be grind and time sink.I was really excited for eureka to drop way back in March but I was one of the ones who was deeply underwhelmed and backed out almost immediately. And so now I've been reading these forums for the last several months and staying out of the comments since I didn't have a proper perspective on it I thought. But now I'm just wondering what exactly did I think eureka was going to be? I was imagining going there with my friends and picking up dailys we could do as a group, new resources to be harvested, and just generally more things that might matter outside of eureka. And then I realized what I expected was the the isle of Quel'Danas from the Burning Crusade. And maybe that was an unfair thing to expect? I don't know but i wanted to post this somewhere now that the idea is rattling around my mind.
Two, the Anemos build worked better because the NMs were timed or could be spawned... and thus made tracking easy. This means, people could view online trackers, get online and run it for a couple hours to get great exp while running with the NM train.
Thirdly, the drop rates of the necessary crystals in Pagos were atrocious... and that light bonus crap was just downright annoying. I already went through that madness with the other relics; thus, there is absolutely no need to make me run through that again.
Man I’ve been begging for these options since the start. I hate Pagos soooo much

Nothing.
Which is why I haven't done it and why I'm not disappointed.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
