    What were we really expecting from eureka?

    I was really excited for eureka to drop way back in March but I was one of the ones who was deeply underwhelmed and backed out almost immediately. And so now I've been reading these forums for the last several months and staying out of the comments since I didn't have a proper perspective on it I thought. But now I'm just wondering what exactly did I think eureka was going to be? I was imagining going there with my friends and picking up dailys we could do as a group, new resources to be harvested, and just generally more things that might matter outside of eureka. And then I realized what I expected was the the isle of Quel'Danas from the Burning Crusade. And maybe that was an unfair thing to expect? I don't know but i wanted to post this somewhere now that the idea is rattling around my mind.

    I guess I was expecting something like the Timeless Isle from MoP. That was reasonably dangerous especially with low gear, lots of rewards, a healthy mix of group/solo, gathering stuff, world bosses, ect.

    I think Enix's problem is the idea that things need to be 0.01% droprate, highly complex spawn triggers, kill 10000 mobs, with timegates or we'll burn through it in 3 days. You need to find a middle ground with the grind, too much and too little reward and players avoid the content entirely, which is the equivilant of burning through it instantly. You can't say Eureka is grindy to keep players subbed longer when they don't even play it and are more likely to unsub than ever. The length of the grind loses its purpose then.

    Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
    Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
    Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

    I wouldn't even compare it to Diadem given Diadem offers more from the get go than Eureka ever did. They made it isolated for the relic gear alone and left little to no incentive to actually play it outside of more relics which were outclassed before they were even released.

    I think what many people had hoped to get with Eureka was a Diadem that took into account all feedback given to it thru its multiple iterations in hopes that we would have a fun testbed for open world content that would eventually be ported into the actual game instead of being instanced as the majority of the content tends to be. What we got was equivalent to what you would find in the overworld with the exception being they took "special" requirements to pop certain FATEs in the form of NMs.

    Eureka should have been the place for the devs to finally to push the limits of the FATE system and overall adjustment of anything Overworld related. Could have been a way to test how chain leveling, adjusted for our pace of combat of course, could work in the actual overworld. Should have tested a possible revival of Hamlet to give an incentive to gatherers and crafters alike while working with a dynamic system that bases itself on the contributions and successful/failures of certain FATEs. Just anything that isn't more of the same would have probably been fine had they'd actually shown effort into iterating on content but as HoH has shown us they're fine with a basic reskin and the addition/removal of a basic system.

    I expected not to take a full minute to kill a monster of my level, with nearly dying unless I popped a potion or used RDM to keep myself healed. To top it off, the exp I gained from killing that one monster didn't feel like it matched the effort into doing it. Trying to make it group intensive right from scratch was not a good move in my opinion and just turned me away immediately.

    i think the main thing eureka needs is party sync, that way if youve got friends that arent 20 yet you can still help them get there, beyond that i dont mind the grouping necessary because it does give the hunt community stuff to do constantly and things dont die in 15 seconds to an early puller

    the downside though is if the hunt community leaves to do 5.0 how is anyone supposed to do eureka then? diadem CAN be soloed, eureka cant

    I was expecting the "exploration" that we should have in the regular open-world (Diadem/Eureka shouldn't need to be made)
    We've got some small things, like no flying and some new behaviours for monsters (like elemental detecting by magic)
    And then... nothing.
    Eureka is probably a lot of work, Amenos is really pretty, but it's a lot of energy for nearly nothing. Just the usual fate grind.
