Eh that's not an elitist, real elitist have their own statics/friends for practicing stuff with and if they're pugging it, trust me they expect you to fail so flying off the handle doesn't happen much.

I feel like since this game is so easy and the combat is really boring that people's tolerance levels are lower, atleast I know that's how it is with me and my group of friends. We could play any other game where there's much, much more on the line if we fail and takes way longer to get groups together. We're ok with that and if someone messes up it's not that big a deal.

Here, we're "gogogogogo pull" and when people mess up it's like how? It's so easy how could you not get that? Like people that run away on stack up markers at level 70.

I just give them advice, is that so hard to do?

Giving advice with this community is the same as insulting them lol. There's been many times where I tell a healer to not only use cure2 &3 cause it'll drain their mana only for them to call me a "shit tank that pulls too much".

Insulting a player doesn't make a person elitist. It just makes them a jerk. People shouldn't be jerks, but neither should players be so overly sensitive as they often are in this community.

What the person did was wrong and was being a jerk. i will admit i have gotten thos sort of rude comments myself " uninstall" "unsub" you name it. you have to remember tho... there jerks in this game and name calling makes them feel better about themself at night. yes you mess up but it just a video game. yes it annoying you may be at the last 1% yes we all get our emotions get high and we say things we don't mean but at the end of the day it just a game and if your gonna get salty about a game be it WoW, FF14, LoL, overwatch. or any other game people play now that has salty people. people are gonna get that way it good to vent about your issues tho it keeps clean the air of sorts. again i am sorry to hear this happen. >^<

I was in a practice run for susaku extreme, we did a few runs. Now I made a silly mistake near the end and went into the wrong area for the feather phase, now I admit I made a stupid mistake but somebody in the part had the nerve to tell me uninstall my game! who the hell does he think he is? I made a mistake but that was uncalled for.

I hate elitists who deride everyone who isn't up to their level, it's far more important to be a good person in game than it is to be a good player. I doubt this guy is the only person like that, I see the damn party advertisment threatening to kick anyone if they make a mistake. I play this game to have fun, I just wish people would treat each other with respect, I admit I occasionally get annoyed when people can't folloe simple mechanics but I don't insult them, I just give them advice, is that so hard to do?

If such a person is making their own party and announcing the intention to kick if a mistake is made, the easiest thing to do is not to join that party. They're kinda doing the right thing: announcing from the get-go their intention. Much more palatable than if it happens and hasn't been announced ahead of time, or is occurring in a less intensive duty. If it happens as in the initial situation you describe, it's not acceptable.

I look at it like this: yes, it is much harder to be decently giving advice when it's called for than it is to just give in, explode and rag on someone. A person who does the latter may not have a handle on how to deal with "pressurised situations" (even in a game) and may need instruction (in real life) about how to direct anger appropriately. There's not a lot the average person can do for someone like that. Or they could just be an arse, but in both cases your best bet is to blacklist, report and move on. Even if you have made a mistake, the person being an arse is the one who actually has a real problem. You can only do you, and how you react to things. If I were you in that instance, I'd have a nice cup of tea, spend time with my cat and/or look at cat memes, before carrying on with the game stuff. I'd also do the same if I was having anger management issues!

Getting into the semantics behind what is and isn't an elitist is probably neither here or there, but I will point out that the mentality that content is too easy and boring to fail mechanics is exactly what leads to players lashing out at others. If you find mechanics so easy and boring, then you should probably be the first person to explain them to the person that just failed them. This leads me to your second comment.

No, it is not. The reason why this "advice" is deemed insulting by the recipient is because 90% of the time the player is being told how to play their job instead of how to avoid the mechanic itself. Mana reservation, proper rotations, efficient use of mitigative CDs... none of this has any bearing when you need to tank swap at 3+ stacks, pass a debuff to another player, or deliberately take one in order to avoid death. Also, an instance is no place for a 'how to play _____ job 101'.

Should I point out that tanks have ridiculous HP pools and are not targeted by 80% of the game's mechanics? Should I mention mechanics that require some players to actually stay out of the stack marker, or they will die? Should I also mention you can get to 70 without ever seeing a single stack marker? If you are called a schite tank that pulls too much, have you ever considered that you might actually be a schite tank who is pulling too much? I would be hard pressed to take advice on how to play my job from someone equally less receptive on how to play theirs. Just sayin'.

It's really not semantics, the xiv community has no clue what an elitist is, at all. Someone that expects some one to do the basics of their job? Elitist. Expect someone to know their rotation at level 70? Elitist. Tired of wiping 10+ times to the same thing? Elitist. Acting like a douchebage? Elitist. Like sausage over bacon? Elitist.

That's false there's been countless times where people have been like "Hey when this happen keep on the look out for X and then do Y" and that's still some how elitist and usually met with hostility its why the playerbase in general will just watch people screw up most of the time and not say anything. Or would rather just kick instead of possibly getting reported for being "toxic" and giving advice (hell go into the DF vent thread and there's loads of people that say they don't like advice they like to figure things out on their own. Be around during the first few hours of any patch and a lot of the people prefer to run content at this time because they dont want advice/to be spoiled).

We can't even make it to the boss if we're dying on ONE pack of mobs cause he's spamming cure 3. Which I then told him "Hey it's easy to get confused here since other mmos the higher skills is what you replace the lower one with" just to again be met with hostility? I shouldn't have to kiss someone's ass and baby them when they can't be bothered to read the tool tips.

What does that have to do with anything? I don't main tank, I main monk and before that it was white mage. Some people have multiple accounts/characters. Stack up markers are different than the other markers, do you play this game at all?

N O P E. Wanna know why? Cause I was pulling 2 packs of mobs at most and the healer was still running out of mana with just 1 pack and on the boss because again. They were spamming Cure 2 &3.

Did you ever consider that some players are just shit? Some people don't want to learn? And some people think that others should carry them? You trying to make excuses for a healer that spams cure 2&3 is why a lot of bads are ok remaining bad that's not being elitist, you're just playing the class wrong. If you are not able to make it through one fight not due to failing to mechanics, you're doing something wrong. Fix it.

Tbh this whole sentiment hurting is getting out of hand. Most of us ignore or make a joke to not let the tension build . This occurs even between people who are friends in real life , so either people need to get more life experience and soak in or just ignore feedback like that. What the feedback was in this thread was not even bad , heard/saw worse.
Also i don't know your definition of elitist, but that ain't it. For minor errors or not knowing the mechanics , you would have been dropped from the party with the first one if that was the case.
So in the end, report and move on or ignore, no point in starting a thread over it.


Been gaming for more 15 years, but lately people overreact to anything and that's why we have 0 to none conversation in the party chat or alliance chat, because there is always someone looking to be offended by any minor joke or troll.
Grow some skin if you want to survive in the real world.

The person has no reason to call you out for that the way he did. If he had so many bad runs and was already mad going into the duty he could've just take a break for a few minutes to cool down before trying again.

Yes I know this will not always work and yes I also know people might get even more mad over that but in the end that's the point where either you leave because you feel like there is no point staying with someone like that, or you try again and have to deal with his behavior.

tl,dr people should be more mature and take a break before freaking out while at the same time people should try not to be so easily offended by everything.
