Can I beat up an NPC in the story eventually?

I dont really want to slap many NPCs (but I do wanna talk some down and tell them to be more respectful to either the WoL or other people) but I wish the WoL would stop letting people get away. At the beginning and through SB where we somehow just let that Roe run away, felt just too strange. This was an enemy that was going to kill us. We were at war..at least take him out and arrest him if you dont outright kill him. But letting him run away felt like I was just watching that one part of Hildibrand with the old people..

There's a cutscene early on in the Alexander storyline where the Illuminati leader and his two lackeys are LITERALLY SURROUNDED by the WoL, Mide, Cid, Biggs, Wedge and Backrix... and they just let him monologue for 5 minutes and then he walks away. Like they're not even doing anything, just standing around talking.

Why dont you just shoot them you have at least one person with a gun!

I know there is a trope name for this, but basically every piece of entertainment does "let the villain monologue" because it shows how haughty/narcissistic/oblivious they are to reality. A non-canon-fodder villain would never reveal their plan, and leave the good guys to guess what their endgame is. "We" want to know the villain's plan because it wouldn't make for good entertainment if we did all this and the villain was just wanting attention and really did it because they could.

Like Zenos endgame isn't really isn't known. We know he wants to become more powerful by any means, but he treats basically everyone as toys.

Zenos's only real goal is to find more strong people to fight. He treats people like crap to make them rise up against him so he can keep fighting. He's only interested in the WoL because we don't immediately die when he looks at us funny.

I personally like Zenos for several reasons, foremost being that I believe story line had evolved to a point whereby we needed a clear cut powerful and ruthless villain.

Exactly. Such situations are annoying because they just exists so that we would have a fight later but then why not make it in a way that gives us no other chance, like short time paralysis or something.

One example that makes more sense but behind spoilers if someone did not do latest patch:

Asahi for example did make at least a bit sense because we still did not want to kill someone that was seen as a emissary (and one could argue that we knew that Yotsuyu was not saveable or maybe the WoL did harbour some bad feelings towards her) but an enemy that later even might return in a harder version..thats just bad writing imo.

I was so excited when we started to do that slow walk after the Tsuki fight. There was just a moment of 'YES FINALLY I CAN PERSONALLY RUN THIS BASTARD THROUGH!' only for the moment to be stolen from me. Granted I guess Yotsuyu deserved to kill him more than we did.
