May I ask why you feel it should be forever? Putting promises aside. Mostly just wondering if the reason some feel it should be forever is simply because of the promise.Erm.. forever?
How is this time based "exclusive" any different to the many other examples in this game? Like the entire legacy account requirements, or the 1.0 Goobbue mount or the minions that came with early soundtracks or even more recently the minions from the previous Fan Fest (the wording suggested the outfit might come back, but the minions specifically said about how this was our "last chance" to get them). Oh and lets not forget items for preordering ARR, HW and SB... If you didn't meet the requirements before the expiry dates, you can no longer get the items.
A partial list of what is not longer available is located at: http://support.na.square-enix.com/fa...5382&kid=68090
Timed exclusives are not something specific to this game.
I don't mean to answer a question with another question, but why shouldn't exclusives be forever? They're not really exclusive otherwise...
Much as I'd love the Legacy tattoo on my 2nd character (which was created around 2.2) or to be able to get items from previous Rocket League seasonal events or to be able to get items from the Battlepasses of previous seasons of Fortnite... I can't. There's also a ton of games out there I can no longer get preorder items/skins/bonuses from, because I missed out and didn't do it at the time. This is really no different.

I concur on this, I've played other games well after they've existed and I've seen limited-release exclusives out there that I really want. However I just accept it, I wasn't there when the game first came out or participated in a big "once-in-a-lifetime" event where they were released. Just because I want it really doesn't really mean I deserve it. I should have picked up the game a lot sooner then. Such is life eh?
Personally, I feel the aspect of non timed exclusives are anti-consumer. While I do not like timed exclusives, I do feel they are a happy middle ground.I don't mean to answer a question with another question, but why shouldn't exclusives be forever? They're not really exclusive otherwise...

To a degree I feel the same, I am not going to go on a crusade for everything to be made available me in virtue of playing the game. It is the way things are, and is something I live with, nevertheless, I will say that I also cannot think of a reason for non timed exclusives to even exist in the first place though. That does not hinge on the fact of I have this item and I do not want others to have it.I concur on this, I've played other games well after they've existed and I've seen limited-release exclusives out there that I really want. On a personal level, I have the spectral tiger mount in WoW, if they made the choice to put said mount on the cash shop I would not be against the idea, I would be all for it. I know this mindset is strange, but the idea of keeping things away from others strikes me odd. I understand it is business, and just the nature of things. Now I am not saying hand everything away to everyone with no effort. At the very least I do think people should be provided with alternative means to obtaining older items. I get that with more options items that are currently rare will no longer be rare, I just do not see the issue with that. Though I am no developer or business owner. So I am sure they have their reasons behind doing what they do.

I'm not a 1.0 player but when it comes to the chocobo and tattoo, I'd agree those should never be made available again. Those weren't rewards earned through game play. They were rewards for paying to support FFXIV at a time when SE could have written the game off as a loss and shut it down. A lot of 1.0 players didn't show SE that support. They absolutely should remain exclusive to those players that did.
I'm just not a believer in exclusive limited time rewards for doing content or having content removed from a game (short of game breaking bugs that can't be resolved). Continuity is important and a new player should get a chance to experience the same content and get the same rewards as the player who played from the start.
Since the chocobo and tattoo had nothing to do with game play, let them remain exclusive.
The chocobo and tattoo are two completely different categories. Everyone seems to be mixing everything up. I did some research, and the results tell a story different than what I have seen here.I'm not a 1.0 player but when it comes to the chocobo and tattoo, I'd agree those should never be made available again. The Legacy tattoo is actually not a legacy reward. It signifies that the character was 'saved' from 1.X Calamity. You didn't need that 90 day subscription. It is possible to make an explanation of how a 2.0 or later character could end up with one. It would be silly, lore wise, to assume that character didn't exist. The (2.0+) WoL could have easily been a no namer, as the events unfolded. I'm really on the fence with the whole tattoo thing, even though I don't like exclusives. My reasons for being against opening up access to the tattoo is similar to some of the arguments here.
Legacy status gives name in ARR credits, the chocobo, and the low subscription price.
Just an FYI to all, the Dalamud horn was from completing removed content, similar to the earrings. I'm only saying this, because I was under the assumption from some posters that the horn was legacy status.
For me it's mostly the promise. When SE says "Hey get this Goobbue mount before patch 1.23a because you'll never be able to get it after that" then that's what I'm going to expect. If they hadn't said that then I probably wouldn't expect it to be exclusive forever.
I can't think of any fancy 1.0 items that were never stated to be exclusive so I can't really give an example like "see, I don't care about that thing being available because they never made me think it wouldn't be". But there is stuff like the chocobo mask that was an achievement reward which were stated as unobtainable, but then they made the racing chocobo mask and I don't remember anyone being mad about that.
