This community astounds me at times.
Shadowbringers doesn't sound like an expansion, as much as it sounds like a AAA title Squeenix is putting out in a action genre. That's just me though. It's more like the title of the next quest to do, but not the actual expansion name. I don't think they'd be that dumb to make two names with the same two starting letters of their current expansion. Lol. I'm hopeful that they're not that dumb.
Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers sounds really.... odd.
They can name it whatever they want.
I am befuddled by people who think such and such name is "too strange" to be used as an expansion title or "it doesn't follow X or Y trend" as if SE would have to rigidly adhere to whatever "rules" this hypothetical person's mind conjures up.

I like it, makes me wonder who exactly these "shadowbringers" will be. Is it referring to the Ascians perhaps? Would be nice to finally take the fight directly to them after so long.
This is why: Shadowbringers sounds like what you'd call the Ascians if you were a child or superstitious old crone. It doesn't fit, in my opinion. Each time a big company register a trademark, everyone looses their mind to speculate what will it be. Quite fun sometimes.
With such Name, it can perfectly be a new game... Like FFXIV expansion.
I think you say it is not an expansion name due to the fact it refers to "anyone" (aa shadowbringer is "anyone/anything" where stormbloord / heavensward are "nothing" just "picture". (if i am false, you can explain the way you think, i am curious)
Probably, but also, we have 2 expansions, maybe they dont really have "rules" to define titles.
We will probably go to garlemald in next expansion, but nothing say we will go in. probably fight in the borders. to push them more and more. And While we fight Garlemald, Ascians will go more in the fight, to defend their "new Allagan empire" one of them could be the shadowbringer.
It's "Prelude in Violet", not "to Violet".
With the whole daycycle theory (ARR for Morning, HWs blue for Day and SBs red for Sundown), the Prelude to the next Expansion being in Violet before fading into a Black/monochrome colorscheme, the name "Shadowbringer" seems at least like a viable option to me.
Why not, though? We'll have to deal with the Ascians sooner or later anyway. And if it actually ends up being the name for the new expansion it'll likely mean more then we think it does; after all, neither Heavensward nor Stormblood are as one-dimensional in meaning as they sound at first.

Whoops. Thanks for the correction. It's "Prelude in Violet", not "to Violet".

And I'm not disagreeing that fading to black/monochrome could happen. I just think calling it Shadowbringers is dumb and it's not a good name.
