MMO's are kind of like a hamburger. The end and the beginning are the little parts. The big part is the middle with all the condiments and the most part, which is where this game keeps you occupied for so long. Well what XIV is basically doing is getting rid of the middle part of that hamburger. So all we have now is the bread. The ends that can only keep you occupied for so long until you just leave it as it is, and come back for the next patch.
Well, therein lies the problem; aside from the lvl 25 dungeon and Shposhae, there currently is nothing in the middle, at least nothing substantial enough to want to keep people there. By far the most interesting things occur at the current "endgame" (Ifrit, Darkhold, etc.). If they did introduce more midlevel content (and new classes to make the most of it), I'd be all for it. In fact, most of my favorite stuff in XI was midlevel. However, here in XIV the most fun I've found was at its "endgame", and for friends who don't have the proper classes leveled to gain the necessary abilities, they have the OPTION of being powerleveled so that they can take part in the current "endgame" events.

This game is not WoW; if you want WoW, go play WoW. If you get butthurt when people mention Final Fantasy XI, then shut up about WoW.

No it's not really the option no more. If you want to do endgame content, you have to have that level or you get kicked out the party. I'm sorry but people are naturally going to take the shortcut.

And there are also mine quests, regular quests, roaming NM's, faction NM's... I mean there is a ton of stuff to do right now. But people focus on the BIG things that happen and think that is the only content. And instanced battle, that's it.

So there is no option of grinding out the levels or gaining xp through leves anymore? It all has to be done with powerleveling? Interesting.

Yes, and this has been discussed in several other threads, with the major argument being there is not enough content in this game (and definitely not enough midgame content to want to keep you there). Midgame roaming nm's have a ridiculously small repop time and an inflated drop rate. Quests generally involve running around talking to few (or several) npc's or killing a set number of mobs. Woo-hoo.

My point is, I don't see why people are still complaining about powerleveling being broken if alternate means to level up still exist.

the reason people complain about power leveling is the fact it is so much more than a grind party. it's not hard to figure out....well maybe it is for some.

if a grind party gets 20k per hour then the power leveling party should get 20k per hour.

if a grind party can get 200k per hour then power leveling should get 200k an hour.

in neither option did i say that power leveling should be removed so you can keep your epeen insults where they belong. i have not said that power leveling should be removed. i stated it should be in line with party grinding.

i stated it didn't matter if they increased party sp, decreased power leveling sp, or a combination of both. the only thing that needs to be done is them get around the same amount of sp.

the way it is now a power leveling group can get massive sp compared to a party grind. if they have the same number of people in the party then the sp should be comparable. it doesn't matter what the amount of sp is. you can say they both exist, but if one way of group parties gets 400k sp an hour and the other one gets 100k sp per hour than they are not both viable.

edit: also if you want to name 1 item for high level end game content i can match it with low/mid game content and vastly outnumber you on the amount. mid levels have more stuff to do than the high levels do.

for high level characters you have buffalo, uraeus, goblin, dodore, mossy horn, darkhold, ifrit, buffalo faction, drake faction, wolf faction, and the 3 strongholds. if you want to go by what is still viable content due to the new gear and materia additions you only have ifrit, dodore, uraeus, and the sentinel gear. the rest is wasted since the gear from the others are worthless.
