There were a couple of threads posted a month or so ago when the rewards were datamined, by people trying to point out that this was stupid and should be changed. Because they believe(d) Square listen to feedback.

The threads were all deleted because it was based on information obtained via datamining. Information that was confirmed today, because... well the information was datamined, not made up.

Y'know, to fully illustrate how much people care versus how little Square does.

And who are these people? These people that care? You mean the minority inside a minority? Because the vast majority of us aren't legacy players, and I'm hopeful that it's only a loud minority among those legacy players whining about this.
They should be happy there's even an anniversary to celebrate, rather than try to be all about "my legacy status".

The only thing that's special about the people complaining about this is that they were willing to spend money on a (then) failing game. That's it. Period.
Makes me wonder, did they even support the game because they loved it? Or just because they wanted exclusive items, a chance to be 'special', in recognition (lol) for throwing money at a dying game?


The developers have shown their appreciation for those players already. If they feel less special now, well, it's because they aren't.

Square, as a collective whole, should get on their knees every single day and be grateful that they have a job and can support their families because of those people bailing them out.

Most Legacy players that I've met, here on XIV and over on XI, actually liked 1.X. Warts and all. Many actually preferred it to 2.0+, which... happens to be why they're playing XI instead. Go figure, right?

Your arguments would carry weight, if:

A) I cared about what other people are playing. Legacy or otherwise, what you do with your free time is your own business. If they like playing XI, that's what it's there for.
B) All legacy players got for their patronage were the earrings, which is not the case.
C) Legacy players, which already have plenty of exclusives, weren't acting so entitled in the forums. How dare the devs give non-legacy players an item, any item, that we've had as an exclusive for five years.


And you are absolutely right, I probably wouldn't support a game I didn't like. And if I did like it, and decided to support it? Playing it would have been reward enough.
I can't well express how little I cared for the earrings, until you and your's brought attention to it. I think it will have the opposite effect of what you were trying to achieve.

I'm not a Legacy player. I was acutely aware of XIV, its failings, its move to F2P and its Legacy initiative. I chose not to subscribe.

If you're going to complain about the Legacy people being "entitled" (that word seemingly does not mean what you think it means), I have no idea how you've remained sane on these boards knowing how the non-Legacy players get. About everything.


But hey, if y'all want to wear them to stick it to us here snowflakes? Good. You know what's worse than them taking this item and giving it away for free? Them taking and giving it away for free and then none of the whiny entitled non-Legacy people even using it.

It's not about legacy though.
Perhaps it's mostly legacy players complaining at the moment since they have this particular item (for the record, I do not own White Ravens ) but it's about the idea that earned trophy items are simply being given away now. Again, this was an item earned from an extremely difficult fight.

People are so backwards with this. it's NOT the legacy players that are being entitled at all
it's the people that feel entitled to get the same things legacy players have without meeting the same requirements. and it's not just legacy stuff its generally everything in the game.

As far back as ARR if you smashed coil you got a rather prestigious and exclusive minion and final witness title.. they were rewards of your accomplishments... yet people are apparantly entitled because they wanted those things to remain exclusive but they're only exlcusive because other players are too lazy to get them themselves. if 100% of the population had smashed coil in ARR and got the final witness title those apparantly entitled players wouldnt care. because everyone had done the smae thing they did to get it.

the real entitlement though comes from people who want those same things but are not prepared to put the time or effort into getting them and expect / demand the requirements to change or alternative ways to accquire be added so they can get those items they feel entitled to because someone else has them..

the lack of prestige or value in any of this games rewards is one of the biggest reasons players just arent motivated to step up there game and rise to challenges. and why many players dont stick around very long.

but the entitled players are the ones who want the stuff other players have without meeting the same requirements they met to get it..

its the same with things like ultimate. players who have beaten it and gotten those rewards aren't "entitled" they are accomplished and prestigious.
the entitled people are the ones who expect easier ways to get those rewards in future and destroy the value an prestige associated there with..

I can't really imagine being all that put out by somebody getting the chance at something I had already gotten during a limited time event. It doesn't impact me at all. It doesn't take away from what the thing or the limited event was.

Something being "limited edition" and then released again doesn't really change the sentimental value of the thing. Maybe the monetary value, but we're not really discussing any sort of monetary value attributed to the item in this case. Only that the item now "means less" because it's available from a different event.

The item that legacy players have still has the same meaning to them, it hasn't changed the sentimental value. And new players having access to the item from a different event simply means that the item has an entirely different sentimental value.

If your appreciation is devalued because someone else is able to appreciate something differently, maybe you're attaching too much significance to material goods.

It may not take away the sentiment but it destroys the prestige and accomplishment.

Prestige is not a bad thing. it's one of humanity's biggest motivators. present in every single aspect of human life and progress. from being the guy that lands the hot girl. to the scientists that cures cancer. or the guy that lands a prestigious promotion at work.

it's like someone said earlier in the thread if you give everyone that ran a race a medal. the guy who actually came in first basically gets shafted his medal is worthless because everyones got one

Everyone else upset because we have exclusive items and they think they should have them too for not accomplishing what we have are nothing more than your typical SJW's (in my opinion at least). They need to man up and work hard like we did for those exclusives when the time happens instead of wait and expect it to be handed to them you can work hard for them like we have. This. If it wasn't for Yoshi coming along and saving the game they wouldn't even have anywhere to complain about not having an exclusive item anymore.

The developers have shown their appreciation for those players already. If they feel less special now, well, it's because they aren't.

Also, this. Not to mention the fact that during a large part of 1.0 the game didn't even have a sub, and when they did finally reintroduce it it was at $9.99, a price they still pay to this day. So, actually, players who started playing in 2.0 have actually paid more in sub fees than legacy players, and thus have supported the game more.
