Extra space that you're paying $5/month for when you could pay $2/month and hire an additional retainer which would give twice the amount of what that $5 saddlebag gives you.
As for the item advantage, people live in different time zones already and one person could jack the prices of a particular item much lower than what they should sell for while the other person is sleeping. Should we start calling multiple timezones a pay-to-win advantage now and start blaming other people for being awake when others are sleeping? Come on, guys.
It's a definite cash grab as someone else said, but it's not pay-to-win. This is greed, plain and simple really.

So something only has value if you think it has value, and if you don't think it has value, people are idiots for buying it. Gotcha.
inb4 "That's not what I said"
It's exactly what you said lol. Just phrase it different.
This i'm not arguing. It is a cash grab for sure - but running around screaming PAY TO WIN is plain stupid imho. Pay to Win would be idk pay €100 and get all top gear or something (not that would even matter in this endgame formula).I wouldn't call it pay to win, but it's still a cash grab. They make a LOT of money already from subscriptions, extra retainers, and mog station sales. WoW's comparable app, besides having many more features, is completely free. This app wants not only a premium subscription but also micro transactions! This is insane.
No cause gil is useless in this game. If we gonna go with a dumb logic like that, then we been pay to win for years with retainer service. Where have you been screaming and making threads about that?
No, I do not believe this app is pay to win what so ever. I think it's wrong on SE end but truth is I, as a dedicated crafter been looking forward to this app for years. I will never buy any coins but I have considered premium plan just for the inventory spaace from an extra retainer and saddlebag. I had hoped it wouldn't consume a nut to change prices on market board but I have NO PROBLEM that they are having selling behind a paywall.

While I don't agree with Hamada ranting, she is kinda right. The app is pretty useless unless you pay for it and it is money grabbing. Money grabbing more out of it playerbase and then turning around and putting that money else where and not back into XIV to make it better.
Blizzard offer their app totally free. You can use their chat, you can use the auction hall to sell and pick up your money, all that good stuff. Though before I left, Blizzard took down the auction part of it but they did say something about a new app coming that would be a lot better, so don't quote me on this, I'm going back to when it was used able and open to everyone for FREE.
You're right, it not a pay to win. I don't know where Hamada even comes up with that theory but, it is stupid regardless. Retainers are $2 a pop on mog station. Just buy two retainers and it still cheaper then the $5 a month, you just don't get a saddlebag. Big deal? Saddlebag doesn't sell things on MB for me anyway but them two retainers that I'm paying $4 for will and their far more useful in the long run.
The app should've been made free, all around. There shouldn't have been anything to pay for. We already pay a sub and that should be good enough imho.

Or, that people who have insomnia and price gouge others while they're sleeping have been pay-to-win advantages for years, lol. xDThis i'm not arguing. There HAVE been complaints about the extra retainers for years. You must have missed them or ignored them since they don't suit your narrative. As for gil being completely useless I disagree. Gil allows for the purchase of materials, transportation, housing, mounts, gearing up alt jobs via crafted sets, ect. If you're a heavy omni-crafter the extra space is practically mandantory. Regardless if you don't like it or not the text book definition of pay to win is if something that you buy with real money gives you an in-game advantage that IS pay to win.No cause gil is useless in this game. If we gonna go with a dumb logic like that, then we been pay to win for years with retainer service. Where have you been screaming and making threads about that?

Then there is the thread floating around on the main page asking for gil to be converted to Crysta. If that happened you could then convert gil to Crysta and buy game time with gil. That is a jack in the box I hope is never opened.

It has nowhere been close to any complains about this app though. Not even compareable in voices or volume of threads, salt or posts. My narrative? lol cause we (clearly) disagree on what is pay to win?
..So what do I win? I can in store more items? I can list, in theory 20 more items than you? Oookey.
Then you must have seen my opinion on that subject I assume. (Hint. I don't want it).
Apart from housing, there is nothing to sink your gil into. If you were in my position where you own multible houses, have everything capped, craft for enjoyment and have multiple 100s of Mil gil. It pretty useless.
Inb4 someone (or you) complain why I even craft when I have plenty of Gil - Same reason someone like Ash10 have capped Gil on multible characters, we find enjoyment in crafting.
Yeah this app is mostly definitely a cash grab, I never had any intention of using it for anything other than chatting anyway! But even the one thing I want it for? It's not even useful for that! The way they described it implied (to me) that I would be able to engage in the in-game FC chat with my entire FC that was currently logged in! Instead it only allows you to talk to people that also have the app and create group chats. For that we may as well just keep using discord! It has more features and it's free on top of that. I wanted to be able to talk to all of my FC including the ones that don't have discord with the app but alas, that's not the case. I messed with it for maybe 10 minutes and immediately deleted it off my phone.
I am still quite annoyed that the inventory space (retainer and saddlebag) is possible if you pay them but otherwise its somehow not..all these many retainers that you can pay for and we still dont have another free one..Also two kupo nuts as a maxium for the free version feels like a joke. (I am not even going to talk about the mog coins..)
All this time and money that was put behind the app which will probably only be usefull for certain people..all of this could have been put into ingame content.
In the end the biggest MMO on the market can give their players an app that is completely free and with quite the functions..yet SE puts a paywall for retainer management in this (and for space) and on top of that microtransactions..I think that this is quite telling.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
