No player would be inconvenienced because no one is required to use it. If anything it would make more people participate in the market and keep that gil flowing instead of being hoarded now that gil wouldn't be worthless.

More seriously I don't think they will do it, or i hope not at least. I don't want them to think something like "hey let's make it F2P since our F2P mobile games are making more money that all our MMO additioned".
Sub token is not f2p and they don't lose money, the tokens aren't generated out of thin air. A player has to buy a token with real money and sell it to you for gil, SE makes money out of the token sale from player A, usually a bit more than they would've made with your sub.

So player A could buy a token for $20, lists it in the market, you buy it with gil and gain 30 days of playtime. SE makes $20 instead of $15, no gil is generated by bots as it's just players passing around money, and it's one less person funding RMT bots.
