oh wait, when i started playing this game there were no novice network , i dont know what sprouts expect when enter that channel ? yes, some can be a bad example of comunnity, but not bring difference betweet JP and NA servers, and please dont bring here EU servers, in my 4-5 years i didnt have this experience and didnt meet any player who will tell this thing or something same. What i think about this "problem" how can be solved - report these people, because that is not a problem of a whole community but just some individuals whit bad behaviour

In my experience (granted, limited: I joined, I saw, I quit and never went there again) the novice network is just a place for a handful of attention-seeking egos to feel like they matter because they got a couple of specific achievements. It's really not a good place to expose genuinely new players to because it gives them the worst possible impression.

I'm a ronin mentor. I'm not on the network but instead always have my Trade Senpai icon on and advertise omnicrafting services in my player search info thingy. I craft stuff (sometimes for free if it's just common mats I have a massive surplus of) and answer questions whenever someone whispers me. That's actually how I found my current FC and made a few friends besides. I'd like to believe this more personal approach has helped more people than the lance-measuring contests that the novice network tends to devlove into.

As a mentor it's sad to read these things, however poeple do have to realize that most players that are trolls are just poor excuse of human being that really have no output in life do to their crummy life, have no social life, and feel some sense of power over harassing other people. Best thing to do is report them to GM so they can take action. Many thing it does no good, however the more people file the same complain about the same person, as in get whole novice network to agree and file a gm report right away about the same player, most GM's will take action that same day.

The problem here being the majority of players in novice networks are actually mentors with the same behaviour. The rest have all abandoned that cesspool.

I could just as easily argue that the meme that the NA/EU communities are rolling garbage fires convinces most would-be mentors and people who would otherwise participate in the Novice Network to not even bother. If all you ever hear is how bad NA/EU is, and how bad their NNs are, chances are you're going to believe it and not even try.

Basically what I'm saying is, repeating this idea that NA/EU is just garbage and needs the man to come in and fix it is just as bad as whatever may be going on in the NNs themselves.

EDIT: Also a self-fulfilling prophecy. People who hear NA/EU NNs are bad won't want to participate and add what "good" to that community that they can.

That's what i was told. To avoid NN because it's garbage. I ignored them, assumed they just had a few bad experiences and wrote it off so I went in there for myself.

Surprise surprise, that place is practically a burning dumpster. Exactly as people warned me. I'm not even bothering to be a mentor exactly for that. That crown is more commonly associated with bad player, arrogance, ignorance rather than a skilled person willing to help.

I'd wouldn't be so quick to lump the NA/EU together.

My experiences of the Cerberus NN (EU) has been pretty positive - it's active and generally well behaved.
I've played WoW on both NA and EU servers and there's definitely a difference in the player base. *Not saying one is better than the other* but they are certainly different.
I think the broader mix of cultures and languages in the EU definitely has an influence on it.

The NN in this game is basically General Chat - which I think is important in an MMO. I think not having a presence of other people in the game world makes this game even more claustrophobic.

How many people didn't do what you did, and join in despite the warnings? Would the Novice Network have been a better place if they did ignore those as well? Would there be more people there, ready and willing to help, able to drown out trolls, if this meme that NN is just garbage and trolling didn't exist? We don't know, and we'll never know. All we know now is this meme is becoming reality simply because we all already believe it to be reality.

People say NN is garbage, therefore people who want to spread goodwill won't go there. Meaning only people who treat it like garbage are there. Meaning that NN becomes garbage.

True, other MMOs do indeed have a general chat. Maybe the novice network needs to go in that direction? Something like an opt in feature. Are channels like this moderated in other MMOs, though?

One of the many risk when playing online games; it's a sad thing, yet true all you can do is black list or move on for now :/...that or sprouts should find a decent FC -.- yet sometimes FC's can be even worse.
