Holding mentors accountable?

I think I'm a passable mentor. I don't go looking for problems to fix, but I'm patient and not demanding of newbies or anyone else, and will explain when an explanation is called for, and will let them experience something first if that seems better.

I don't dare count myself as even a passable mentor, because that would be both arrogant and untrue, but I do know when to recognize good mentors. With your attitude, I am positive you are amongst the good mentors. I think the situation pointed out in this thread would definitely improve if there were more mentors like you.
