I knew of a guy who got catfished by a dude pretending to be a chick, it was a good swindle. Got about 2mil coins from him and some rare items. I blame the dude who bought into it, though. Dislike people who lie and cheat all you want but it's extremely easy to not fall prey to it - by just not being stupid in the first place and jumping on something just because they flirted with you. I always ended up doing a marriage with a dude in games because I'd just play them to make friends - nothing beyond that. I'd always find a best friend essentially, we'd run content together and have good teamwork, the marriage portion was just extra bonuses to compliment what we were already doing anyway. But that's all it was - two friends who did a quest and got some items. I did have a lot of thirsty dudes chasing after me, especially 10 yrs ago when it seemed more rampant. They were never an issue because they come off as extremely pathetic immediately. If you want a partner in the real world, go live in it first. Learn how to talk to people.

Also just as a random tidbit to the other conversations happening here. I am female. Though if people ever assumed I was a dude I'd just roll with it because it was never anything to make a fuss over imo. They'd just find out I was a chick later through vc and be surprised and laugh, then that was it. It also helped keep the creeper content down.

Wither they did or didn't, titling the thread with the name of the discriminatory policy to silence LGBT people in the military is wrong by principle. Whatever the hell the OP is moaning about isn't a grounds for the title for the topic. Video games and IRL are 2 different realities and the actual name of this thread invokes bad memories, so I'm calling the OP out for why he or she thought the discrimination policy would make a good title for a petty video game activity.

I don't think you ever read the OP at all... merely are getting upset that they used words that actually was a policy in the US at one time.

While you can argue the title is "bad form" it essentially is what the OP think folks should do in game (which makes no sense at all)... I do think he put a lot of time and effort into the initial thread and probably didn't imagine it would spiral down the path it did.

Although to be fair, I myself read it slightly differently yesterday but I was running on very little sleep when I read it.

@FOXPAW if males need the internet to explore and get their feminine thing out, then they don't have a lot of self confidence and that lack can harm them in the end. I have an Armenian friend who is very straight, but will never stop saying " oh!, that's so cute" or "I love that dress on you."

I am guessing you are from the old generation. that group is still having issues to grasp and giving a bad example to the modern times. I said that can be a harm because I met a lot of called straight guys in game who will "roleplay" as a female because they need it to let their stress out. They are forced to come to the internet to let their oppression escape. They should go and talk to a psychologist or psychiatrist. Human beings needs to evolve in technology, in culture, and in emotions. So far, human beings are evolving rapidly in the technology aspects, but take a look in history and our traditions, behavior, and culture is almost the same. There hasn't been a lot of change.

I would highly suggest you to always mark and remark that this is your opinion and inform the audience that you lack some current information ( you mention that you still believed that MMOs were dominated by just the male population and female players are almost non existent to too small to be counted). By letting people know that it's your opinion, thoughts and you lack a lot of information, you would have given a better statement to the readers.

Once I asked a member in my FC to get eternally bonded.

The player said yes and we started making plans.

Sadly I think I scared the person off. The person never logged in to FFXIV again. That was a year or 2 ago.

Issue being the player was either transgender or desired to be seen as female in real life. On discord or chat it was pretty convincing femininity. I miss her

She was a great player at her job and had almost everything to max level. Being a good player and fun to be around was no better match for eternally bonded. Fun to play with and the extra ring return to each other. We'd both started playing heavily since 2.0 launched.

I'm sad I wish I could have explained this to her before she vanished. But that's a double edged sword, it would be very hard to ask someone:

Hey, I know your a male IRL but if your transgender or transitioning or see yourself and your gender preferance is female that's really cool."

As to the reason - I don't know. The girl who did it to me said she was scared to come out as a lesbian and things just got out of hand. I'm not in these peoples heads.
    Exactly, never lie.

Would go so far as to say never use or manipulate someone.

If say someone asks you what are you a guy or girl IRL or how old are you, or what do you do for a living".... and you are tempted to lie. Just be truthful. Always be truthful. SAY: "I'm not comfortable answering that question" or that you don't want to answer that.

    You don't have to lie.

If someone online is telling their entire social circle that they are a certain gender, -usually- it means they are that gender (whether they are cisgender, trans, etc).
If you think that they're aren't a lot of guys doing that, you're being just a tad bit naive in believing 100% what people in an MMO tell you. Girls will catfish, guys will catfish. There's no ratio or balance and the people that enjoy stringing other people around for a self-confidence or self-satisfaction boost towards their ego will always exist and be around. People do it in real life, but it's even easier to do it within an online game or dating website because many people hide behind their screen for that animosity. No one is required to tell the truth and you shouldn't always expect it.

You'll just get easily emotionally pushed around and toyed with.

In agreement with Jumper here mostly, especially with the bolded statement and people harboring this opinion that "there's not very many or any female players in this MMO" stereotype is getting helluva old now. We don't make ourselves public because when we do, people harass us for it and we have a better enjoyment of the game by just staying silent.

Just because we're silent doesn't mean that we don't exist. We do. We just don't care about letting you know. It's better off that way sometimes.
