I have a novel idea, why don't you tell SE how to improve apartments since there is plenty of those for purchase on the OP's server.... Or is this more about wanting a Mansion on the hill rather than access to the housing feature?

That has to do with a population balance problem more then anything, here you will never see houses cheaper then the start price. All houses are too cheap in relation to the supply though, so that brings us to the next set of issues:I rather they increase the price of the plot itself making the buy in own a plot much higher. While not popular I do think the price for large plots are far too low given how few they are. I was able to get one for around 20 mi. I rather housing be a gil sink in the regard to prices outside of maintenance fees.
What does SE do to balance the server populations?
Why didn't SE take measures before it got this bad in regards to the question above?
Why don't they price adjust the houses in relation to the amount of gil floating around?
Why not have more gil sinks outside of glams and housing?
Why can't SE put more funding in this game to have a proper housing system everyone can enjoy?
Why not have housing upgrade options so people can show off how much gil they earned outside owning complete wards?
We need more things to do with gil otherwise housing hoarding is going to be an issue some way or another.
Why do they not make any improvements to the game's economy?
Yes I know that, I was trying to give something to think about, other points of view, sort of speak, on what you said.I’m talking about the idea of putting gil into the house a la a real-life mortgage, not my subscription. I get wanting more gil sinks, but I disagree with maintenance fees for a house.
My subscription goes for more than just maintaining a house since I actually play the game. I can’t speak for others, but if you’re paying $15/month to just maintain your house and not even play the game...
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
If they allowed for expandable apartments that provided all the benefits of a house I would have very little reason to keep the plots I have. Since I do not use them for decoration.
As I said before I understand where you are coming from, while you expect people to not take advantage of systems that either ill defined or not consistently enforced because rules are in place and people should follow them no matter what. I expect people to take advantage of ill defined and or not consistently enforced rules. Maybe I am a failure of a human but I do not follow rules simply for the sake of them being rules. Due to me having that expectation it is hard for me to understand the purpose of a rule or policy if it is not enforced. SE should have learned by now just how far players are willing to go for an advantage. Even if they cannot act on outside information they as a company should know the housing reddit exists and tried a tad harder to at the very least pretend they were paying attention to the housing situation.Again you are repeating posts that I addressed. It is not safe to assume you can exploit rules because SE did not say anything about not how to exploit rules, you sign a ToS agreement that does that anyway, we been over this. For them doing something by now, SE does not exactly address problems that only happen with NA, as someone else pointed out. I extremely doubt there is a Japanese player out there on the OF bragging how they exploit rules and obtained houses in an unfair manner, so the GMs have no real guidelines on this sort of thing. (how does admitting to an act on the OF effect actions taken in the game?) I will say this though, they are watching this thread like a hawk and if something fits their strict checklist it will get addressed. A lot of posts are deleted and:
hmmm I wonder what happened to the subject referenced...
Though even if SE did punish players I am sure the punishment would not be harsh enough to offset the benefits one enjoyed prior to the punishment. We had a FC mate we caught using bots in front lines, man even admitted to it in FC chat after we removed them we found out they only got a three day suspension because it was their first offense, and they kept all the rewards plus it took them over a month to take action. Granted maybe they would do something different since gil is involved with housing, but are they really willing to go that far to remove gil from players even if they cannot confirm the origin?
I do not think SE will ever be able incentivize population imbalance on servers like Balmung. As for the other points while cynical I do not think SE wishes to put anymore resources be it money or man hours into resolving the issues with it.That has to do with a population balance problem more then anything, here you will never see houses cheaper then the start price. All houses are too cheap in relation to the supply though, so that brings us to the next set of issues:

See a lot open plots might need to transfer to smaller server if want one.

Ultros still has 150+ empty small plots. Most of them are at lowest price. We even have a few meds auto demo from time to time. I've even offered and have bought small plots for players from different servers who don't have available housing.

/Clap. Amen.It is not an exploit against the TOS under any circumstances. Trying to turn the basic process of FC creation into a violation of the TOS because you do not like what a person did with their FC is frivolous.
How would you actually fix the housing situation? Other than going through and taking houses away from people, which will never happen, how do you actually suggest fixing the housing issue?
Do you even understand the problem with housing or have a suggestion on how to fix it, or are you just here to lay blame and stay entertained by the drama?
Here is one of the issues I see. You actually think SE is going to take houses away from players like OliverB. They aren't. SE has already proven countless times they grandfather people like OliverB into any new system they create. The drama is pointless. It will do nothing to solve the issue.
Try and focus on the topic of housing, what problems housing is currently causing, and how to fix those issues. Just running around yelling about someone owning 16 houses will do as much as when people found out 2 players owned a whole district... which was absolutely nothing.

It is not a "clap" if a person you are trying to praise is misrepresenting what is being said. They are right " Trying to turn the basic process of FC creation into a violation of the TOS because you do not like what a person did with their FC is frivolous." is correct, but that is not what was being said.

I don't think this is a real solution, what some players are doing is easy to be upset about but this purge does not seem to be a practical way of meeting demand.

I was wandering when this would come back. :-)
