I don't think the word hypocritical applies when you are talking about a large group of people, all with differing opinions.

The problem lies with the theme park design of the game giving conflicting impressions on how a player should be playing their role. People do dungeons and then expect to be able to do all content that way, and the early game does nothing to eliminate this playstyle or line of thinking.

eg, POTD = Everyone's a dps, press x to win.
24-man alliance = Who's a good main tank, yes you are. Hey healers... Alliance C is dead can you... maybe? (Alliance C remains dead for the entire fight)
8-main raid = git gud or don't play, ever.
MSQ light party = Could you maybe not pull everything wall to wall with new players kthx.
PvP = Win trading and bots, who actually plays this content for serious?
LoV = More win trading.

Like there's at least 4 different combat styles (Zerg, Meta, BigPull and MSQ) and they don't work well together.


The duty recorder has a lot of potential, but right now it's basically not usable. Even going beyond combat, it could be used for players doing machinima-style things if some editing tools are provided to protect the privacy of players in the background by default.

It should be turned on by default on all duties, and players who don't opt in, are replaced with scions or other storyline-relevant NPC's.

Duty recorder is obsolete because recording software, ACT and FFLogs exist. It doesn't have the features to replace any of these.

never used it but doesn't ps4 have already a recorder (share button) ?

i'm on the side of "noone asked for it and it's useless" because like i said ps4 already have that and on pc some graphic card driver have it too (and finding a recording software isn't that hard if you haven't one)

Nothing's perfect. Always the option of asking a PC friend for ACT usage.

Personally, I want it for my group not because I'm worried about dps, but because I want people to be able to see which mechanics they're ignoring/missing. "Why do I keep getting hit by icecicles" = Well, watch the video and see that it's because when you run out for earth breath you don't run back in. /shrug

I've not used it yet but if I remember well you can choose the POV as you wish. As such Imho is a bit superior to the avaible sources which unless you have multiple ppl streaming the run you can only get one POV.
Now I'll go into uncharted territory and say that streaming while progging is also a hit to perfomances, I imagine that while the recorder is recording you might not suffer from perfomance issue, but If someone has more ripe informations on this they can correct me

It's pretty much pointless for most players. It's too restrictive and it wipes your recordings the next time a major patch releases and you need the entire group to pass a vote to use. If it didn't exist most people wouldn't notice. I wouldn't be surprised if the vast majority of players don't even know it is in the game.

The only place you can even use it right now is O8S. Maybe Japanese players use it or something? I've never actually been in a group on NA/EU that even tried to hold a vote.

It's a rare occassion but I agree with you. Yes, it should be turned on by default. Log the items the players are wearing (you know, for the sake of stats), and if someone doesn't accept it, you have it roll a random player character look for them (so let's say I didn't agree to it, you might instead get a Lalafell male instead of an Au Ra female). Replace the name with a random NPC name (like Momodi, or Nanamo), if you don't want storyline relevant NPCs (since I'm not sure how all of them will work, e.g. Ultimate, are there any storyline-relevant NPCs for that?)
