    Duty Recorder Forgotten?

Like...did SE just forget this was a thing? Why did they even add this feature, because it feels like its pretty underutilized.
I think you can ONLY use it in os8 right now. Why can't you just use it on all primal and raid fights to make it worth something?
Also the other restrictions are pretty silly on it too, why do you have to wait 5mins before you can use it.

It's a good question that ppl should be brought up to the devs since honestly creating a feature and then imposing on it 2k restrictions is not a smart idea

    Speculation:

Bad reception for the same reason parsers are - visible, semi public source of how well you perform by seeing whether you die to the boss or not and how active you are in a fight.

Good intention regarding improving performance never gets good reception to the point that any attempt to give such tools is greeted with hate and speeches how SE deceived them. At this point the term "improving" has been villianized.

As said, merely speculation because it is not the first time hypercasuals made a lot of noise to anything that could urge them to up their performance a little (minor dps checks in casual content, god forbid).

It was added in 4.2 as a beta feature, in 4.3 they had to remove restrict where you can use it because they had to fix dozens of bugs with it and it's still not ready for release, I believe they were planning a full release for 4.4 or later.

Players just don't need to improve. The game is ridonculously easy and everything is handed to them on a silver platter..

The community itself is incredibly hypocritical as well. On the one hand complaing that players can't do mechanics while on the other frequently coming out with comments like mechanics are for cars.. It's no wonder players don't bother learning.

I also think this again is yet another issue with the treadmill. Every piece of gear in the game is bland worthless junk. And because it's worthless you really cannot expect players to have to do much to get it. Which is why its handed to you..

If you had gear that was strong and powerful and felt valuable I bet many players would step up there game to the extra challenge involved in getting it.

It's a basic human philosophy. What you get out of something has to worth what you put into it... players won't improve there game when they get nothing for it...

I don't think the word hypocritical applies when you are talking about a large group of people, all with differing opinions.

The problem lies with the theme park design of the game giving conflicting impressions on how a player should be playing their role. People do dungeons and then expect to be able to do all content that way, and the early game does nothing to eliminate this playstyle or line of thinking.

eg, POTD = Everyone's a dps, press x to win.
24-man alliance = Who's a good main tank, yes you are. Hey healers... Alliance C is dead can you... maybe? (Alliance C remains dead for the entire fight)
8-main raid = git gud or don't play, ever.
MSQ light party = Could you maybe not pull everything wall to wall with new players kthx.
PvP = Win trading and bots, who actually plays this content for serious?
    LoV = More win trading.

Like there's at least 4 different combat styles (Zerg, Meta, BigPull and MSQ) and they don't work well together.

The duty recorder has a lot of potential, but right now it's basically not usable. Even going beyond combat, it could be used for players doing machinima-style things if some editing tools are provided to protect the privacy of players in the background by default.

It should be turned on by default on all duties, and players who don't opt in, are replaced with scions or other storyline-relevant NPC's.
