As far as I'm concerned, FFXIV is not the type of game made for rushing to max level to "begin the game". The MSQ IS the game IMO. Sure there's an end game, there's savage raiding, lots to do, but if you're coming into FFXIV thinking you'll just rush to max level so you can jump into end game you picked the wrong mmo. I mean you can pay for a boost but... that would be paying to NOT play the game... which sounds incredibly stupid to me. Though there's no boost through stormblood... and again... why would you pay to not play the game?

But that's just my subjective opinion.

I feel the same way. The Heavensward MSQ was really enthralling but Stormblood has been a huge bore. What's worse is that I have to level up right now to continue the MSQ, but I can't bring myself to do it. I only play for the story, the actual gameplay is not fun enough. I think I'll come back when the new expansion is out.

I think my problem is the opposite of yours - I may have an addiction.

I think Gathering is your problem

I've nearly got 3 dps jobs to 70, I can't even fathom the time and patience required to do what you have!

The 2.x story takes too long, there's too many tedious quests and too much "busy time" in it. The Devs know this, they acknowledged it at the LL and they want to do something about it, but they need to work on how to do it.

That being said, 3-4 weeks for content that was released over 4 years is more than a bit of rushing. The fact was the majority of people have had the time to digest that over years now and trying to binge it all down that fast is bound to burn anyone out. It's okay to take time away, no matter how long you've been playing or how new you might be. You're allowed to step away from a game you're not enjoying currently to play something else and hopefully you come back to it with new energy and new desire to conquer those challenges.

Never forget, this is a game... you can choose to play it or not play it as your whims dictate. Never feel like you MUST play the game even when you don't feel like it, that's the most certain way to burn out completely on it.

I finally got around to leveling my Balmung alt, from when the server was briefly open, and I wouldn't say its overly difficult to get through all the MSQ so long as you skip all the cut-scenes. With that said, it definitely wasn't a fun experience as someone who already experienced the story.

Sadly this is a story driven game. Many people love the story but also played it over 5 years time.

That is why they added a skip item to take you right to level 61 story.

Sadly this is a fault of locking content behind some MSQ, but they also needed to do this to make sure everyone had a reasont to do msq.

But ie... is don't spam msq for 8 hours. do 1 or 2 MSQ every 2-3 days... and do 24 man or non msq locked content to keep interest and gear updated.

That's a surefire way of making the MSQ as boring as possible.
I love this game but I'll be one of the first people to admit that more often than not quests are designed horribly, especially main story ones. If you're skipping the cutscenes you're pretty much missing the only worthwhile part about them aside from dungeons and instanced battles, so if you're doing nothing but boring quests with no context or narrative then yes, I can imagine it'd be quite difficult to do ARR-SB and you'd probably be very burned out by the end.

Ah! A kindred spirit! Here I thought I was the only nutcase who had the patience to level 8 alts to current content!

I can't fathom what makes a person want to rush through the MSQ if they actually want to experience the story. OP burned through nearly all the MSQ leaving him/her very little to experience as far as that goes after playing the game for only a month. Bummer.

For me, the MSQ is the main source of fuel that keeps my interest in playing the game very high. I do plenty of other things, and spend a lot of time outside the MSQs, but it's the main thing that prevents total burnout. You can only experience the MSQ the first time, one time. So I look at it like precious fruit that can only be yielded once. My interest in endgame is very low, so I have no problem not being caught up.

Luckily, Yoshi feels the game hasn't even peaked yet, so we can expect a 5.0 and a 6.0 at the very least. Hopefully OP will be a little a more conservative going forward.

I'm not even close to being burnt out :P

I can't imagine what i could accomplish in 3 - 4 weeks, probably as much as you would accomplish in a year at your current rate!
