Looking forward to it. From what I've heard so far, gotta beat Stormblood MSQ, get to 70, and when watching IGN sounded like we're gonna have a trial in this event.

I just hope it isn't another zerg fest like Ixion or Eureka where there are so many players that just about every object gets culled and you spend your time dying to invisible things.
I'm imagining they played the game once without any semblance of tactic or strategy, slowly whittling away a monster, hitting it in the worst spots and dealing minuscule damage for 45 min and thought that was the game.
The visual aesthetic of MH is my jam, I love the broad use of bone, fur, and flesh with/out metal to create a large variety of armors. They may not all look perfect but even some of the clumsier designs I still have some love for; even some of the wackier niche armors like the Butterfly set are awesome, gimme dat!

If you go into Monster Hunter looking at it like it's a glorified hack and slash, you're not going to get much enjoyment out of it. The combat itself is the thrill of the game and just like FFXIV, you can gitgud or you can barely scrape by. The difference with Monster Hunter is "barely scrapping by" eventually weeds players out once high rank hits. Those that manage to stick around probably won't make it in G-rank, as there are legit combos, one-shots and tech traps. The game has a legit learning curve and those that don't want to learn it tend to give up with an immensely bad impression of the game. It is absolutely unforgiving in that aspect; you have to learn the monsters and you have to learn the weapon. The beating up is dull, and the armor is ugly. MH started out as a PS2 game over fifteen years ago, and its mechanics only now are starting to escape that. I recommend playing horizon zero dawn sometime, which also has the "kill big critters" theme but it much more story driven with a better world.
The limited time and carts see to it that you're forced to improve.
Played Horizon: Zero Dawn. Horizon lacks all of the finesse Monster Hunter has. The combat is not nearly as refined as Monster Hunter's combat.
The game has also had quite appealing armor, but only if you've actually looked at all of them. Early armors tend tend to be basic and slightly airing on the ugly side. There are people that are still obsessed with some of the older armor: Kirin, Nargacuga, Barioth, Bnahabra, Mizutsune and even Jinouga.
If you're playing the game right, a monster won't take more than 15-20 minutes (basically, your dungeon run in FFXIV). It's completely possible to kill a monster in minutes, or even, seconds. Monster Hunter both has traps and elemental weaknesses to exploit. Other varied game-play comes with the weapon itself: LBG laying down landmines; HBG turning into a tommy-gun or prone to snipe; bow turning into a long-ranged sniper capitalizing dragon piercer; etc.
You mean like FPS have ammunition and reloading of guns? S'same thing.
A lot of this stuff is subjective, but comparing the two games isn't; you can objectively compare their combat systems from a mechanical standpoint. I can already tell you that Monster Hunter's is better; there's no RNG behind your actions in Monster Hunter or applying status to monsters (dizzy, stun, KO, staggers, para, sleep, poison, blast, exhaustion, severing - NONE of this is RNG), but there absolutely is in Horizon: Zero Dawn (stuns, stripping, etc.).

Curious to see how that plays out. Events have, for as long as I've been playing and can recall at least, been accessible to most of the player base. I can't really recall any that have been any higher than level 20 or 30 max (and can't even think of any that high, but, conservative estimate).
They can't possibly expect us to enjoy an Ifrit NM-level event, and it seem unreasonable to expect this to only be accessible to players that have bought SB expansion and are level capped. Level 50 end of ARR maybe, but even that would be tedious. And syncing all low level players up will be a nightmare, dumping piles of new skills that most won't even understand.
So, special set of duty-only actions? Specially synced stats?

Hm. Fair point. Guess I'll be ignoring this event's existence as well.

Why's that? The event isn't going anywhere.
“We feel that volume-wise, it is pretty significant,” Yoshida said. “It does have some kind of story aspect as well and we feel like it won’t disappoint."
“For XIV’s case, we really had to set up a new gameplay mechanic,” Yoshida teased. “It’s going to feel very different from your typical in Final Fantasy XIV.”
Those worried they’ll have to jump into the content as soon as it launches later this summer should find relief in knowing that the event is not limited time. “It’s something that we want to keep so players can jump in at any time whenever they are ready to try the content,” Yoshida confirmed.
