Just here to do my mentor duty and letting you know that it's common player etiquette to make a Party Finder group when doing extreme and harder content, because you get to describe your intentions (practice / clear / farm) and set filters, and that helps you find like-minded people.

If you want to know how mechanics work before pulling the boss, it's more efficient to read or watch a guide instead of asking someone to type everything in chat just for you. In hard content you should aim to bring your best knowledge and ability out of courtesy towards other players, or "carry your weight" as the saying goes.

By using the Duty Finder you gain the convenience of automated matchmaking but give up the ability to filter people and have to just deal with who you are paired with. Anyone who is first to leave a DF duty already gets punished with a 30 minute lockout, mentor or not. If you feel like this is not enough, what kind of penalty would you be willing to accept for leaving a duty when you or your party isn't capable of clearing? I think everyone should be held to the same standard because we are peers. By placing higher expectations on mentors you are putting the title on a pedestal and giving it more value than it really has, which causes issues like people wearing the icon for status reasons.

No one is forced to use the mentor tag. You can turn it on and off as you please. If a person isn't in the mood to be a mentor then they should take the tag off.
Mentor roulette is a glorified queue-filler. It also puts the crown on automatically - the player has no choice in this regard. I’m sorry you drew this conclusion from my post.

It should be noted that OP specifically mentioned looking up how to do Ramuh Ex before venturing in.

Since when is anyone forced to do mentor roulette?

If you don't want to mentor then don't put yourself in a position where it is expected that you would fulfill that role. You don't see players defending tanks who don't want to tank. I don't see why mentors should get special treatment in this regard.

    Obviously no.

You cant report players for being bad unless its to the level of intentional sabotage/harm to the dungeon/trail run.
Verbal abuse however IS something GM's will take action on...but it has to be very bad.

Mentor's are held to a higher standard on this point. Players however..will be players.

Honestly at this point they should decouple Mentor Roulette from the Mentor system. Rename it to "Duty Roulette: General", and keep the mount reward from it. Takes away the reward for being a mentor, but the queue filler duty roulette remains as is. Would also not force mentor on you. Problem solved (for the most part).

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

That's good, but I was mostly referring to this part below. There should be no need to tell anything if the person already saw a guide. At the most people discuss positions and who takes what responsibility during the fight, but that isn't something a mentor alone should rule.

There is a difference between someone telling you they have no other tips to give and someone telling you, and I quote op, "refused to tell anything and said that this wasnt worth his time because he only wanted the mount."

I find it baffling people are actually trying to defend a mentor who is clearly an example of a bad one.

You can report bad players. Different playstyles, y'know. Sanctioned by yours truly.
