Wow this so wrong on so many levels. I suffer from depression and anxiety often more so with anxiety. It’s not something you can just forget or pretend it’s not there or make it go away by staying busy etc. It’s something already ingrained at least for the more severe kind in your brain chemistry. When your brain is still developing, your enviroment can change the outcome of how you will be. Anyways I am speaking about this I don’t know why; since, I have come to accept that people just don’t understand, and this goes for every ailment out there. Unless you have experienced it you wouldn’t understand nay even sympathize truly with that person.

I was speaking more on natural Vitamin D; I should have clarified. I have taken Vitamin D supplements and they actually make me physically ill to the point where I cannot keep food down. For some reason, my body just doesn’t like the supplements.
Sadly, I am also Vitamin D deficient, so I have to find ways to up my vitamin D levels, as the low levels leave me constantly exhausted, and I have issues with my memory sometimes. Damn body.

Medicines and pills are also things that people react to differently. I can’t say that medicines have helped me much long-term, as they all come with side-effects that seem to manifest (like some have made me feel more depressed, and others have made me just not feel at all), or they seem to just stop working all together. That being said, therapy did help me back when I was regularly seeing a therapist.

Again, it’s all about finding what works for you. Different things work for different people. I’m a bit socially anxious, but sitting outside in my yard is a very “freeing” feeling. However, I do so in the safety of my yard where it is just me because crowds make me really nervous lol.

I posted the snippet just in my previous post because I didn’t want to double post (as the page had not updated with a reply after mine...though it could have been that you had responded but the forums have not been wanting to load properly for me today—I think it’s just my Internet being dumb), considering this forum’s arbitrary daily post limit.

Anxiety (and depression) is not a choice. It's no more a choice than someone suffering from a physical condition, nor is it anymore selfish - it's merely different. Telling someone to "positive think" their anxiety away or "throw themselves into something" to get over it is as nonsensical as telling someone who can barely walk to try yoga, and it's this kind of ignorance that causes many to suffer in silence for years.

My suggestion is very simple to help rid the mind of negative ailments, put yourself in a situation where the things we take for granted must be earned by only yourself.
This is so ridiculous I don't even know where to begin. Should we take away crutches and wheelchairs from the physically disabled, too? Let's leave them in the forest with a pile of twigs and no food, they'll soon forget their pain, right?

People need to stop confusing awareness of self with being selfish. They are two completely different things.

Better to just drop the discussion altogether and advise those who are having issues to seek a licensed counselor/therapist for assistance. None of this armchair psychology is doing anything to help anyone. Leave it to those trained to evaluate an individual's situation.

I agree. People who dont suffer from it cant really understand this since a lot parts of the anxiety are not rational. I knew for example that the pain comes from my back and yet there are times when I woke up believing that I was about to die. These attacks were horrible and I never wish them on anyone. And it was even harder because a lot of people are believing that you are just weak and need to grow up. Completely ignoring that you cant just simply switch a button on something that was integrated into your brain and that has body reactions with it.

I am just really thankful that therapy exists even if its still a fight.

So I can understand the OP. I can understand that some things are too much and its nice that there is a discord for those that suffer from this.

It seems my advice wasn't well-received. I get that selfishness has negative connotations... It's hard to state it in a way that doesn't irk people who suffer these afflictions. Again, I stress that I wasn't trying to be inconsiderate. I personally have suffered from depression and anxiety since age 14, and I'm 30 now. Much like the first to reply to me (Jojoya,) I haven't defeated depression. As much as I try to love myself, and lie about it to myself in the worst of times, people just see through it anyway.

But anxiety? I have reduced it by about 75% just by following my own advice. When I feel myself entering a spiral, I just think. Why am I THIS important? It tends to calm me down. The other 25% comes from tense situations where I just can't think about things clearly, make snap reactions, and stew in the consequences for hours after, hating myself.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone. Again. This is purely my experience, and maybe I should have gone into more detail about why I have the opinion that I do.

The thing you have to remember is that your experience is not universal. Anxiety in particular is a beast with many heads, and it affects people differently, to varying degrees. I'm glad you've developed a better understanding of your own anxiety and have found a method that helps you cope, but generalising and making blanket statements from it is not only potentially hurtful to those who suffer with it, but promotes misunderstandings and attitudes like those shown in this thread that trivialise mental health issues or paints them as a self-inflicted result of being selfish or negative. In actuality, anxiety is a recognised disorder that can affect anyone, and depending on the severity can be incredibly debilitating and distressing to live with. To imply it's something people always have control over is wildly inaccurate.

I typically just ignore elitists, used to be one myself, I can typically outplay anyone on any class when I feel like it and care to put the time in. At this point, anyone getting angry or upset over a video game I just imagine them to be babies and ignore it, easy that way. If I wanna deal with elitist crap ill join a 1 percent static.

When the true source clicks in your head one day, you'll find the strength to combat it. It won't be perfect, but it can be better.
