(Well quite some deleted posts)
But doesnt FF have quite some "animal" races? So being FF does not make it an argument against Lupin.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Dude no. Seriously.

Personally, I would like to see Lupin and Viera both come to fruition. The way I perceive everything, the devs like to challenge themselves. While I understand that many arguments of "Ew, furries" or "No, Viera are better" or many other varios types will surface; Both races provide their own challenges to the developers. For the Viera it is the feet and how to integrate them as the designs in other FF titles have them appear with Digitigrade feet somewhat, which provides a challenge and the Halloween event with the werewolf costume helped them experiment a little with that, essentially a shoe without a high-heel, heh. Where as the other design issue they have to address if they were to decide "Let's make the Lupin an option as well, since we did like the design from the HW race designing phaze.", would be how to address the helmets and customization of hair as well as the faces.considering the formula they used in beast tribe dailies for HW, I believe that the Namazu will be the last we see for the expansion of those dailies. Unfortunately as much as I DO want to see the Lupin become a playable race, there is a strong possibility that they will remain untouched and be simply background npcs that see very little spotlight or exploration like we have with the Quiquirn(SP?) whom never got a big beast tribe set of quests or a primal. However, it does feel like a lot of effort to bring a specific race to a certain spot light as it feels they had been doing and then just not do anything with them. The arguement does hold that along with the Viera, the Lupin where a head/tail option considered for the HW playable race. To me I feel that only time will tell and all I can do is hope that both Races get to see the spotlight in some way, playble or not. I would change to either in a heartbeat, but Lupin would be my first pick. Here's Why: While Viera are amazing and Amazonian, even the men, they have a beauty to them, an almost porcelain serenity that makes me love them. However, Lupins are based on Wolves, giving them a feirce, yet still in it's own right Majestic appearance. To me because of various symbolism found in the use of a wolf, via a novella or even by Native-Americans, makes me want to play them more. Wolves tend to represent Loyalty, Instinct, courage and dignity, which makes them seem interesting. Viera also make me think about their animal counterparts when it comes to symbolism: Rabbits usually are used to represent Guile, Quick-thinking, humility, and Strengthening intuition. Between the two I would like to be something that is fierce and loyal, not saying that Viera cannot be that, but to be a Wolf type race to represent it is kind of a cool idea to me. Where as I would have a Viera to represent my love for the aforementioned qualities and at the same time as whatever class I chose, have it be a symbol of Beauty and Intellectual pride. My points may not make sense, hell they even confuse me too, but this is how I feel about the situation. I hope for both Personally.
P.s. my post was too long to put in one reply sorry lol..

It was pretty odd playing through certain parts of MSQ due to the sense of mystery played on Yugiri's race...while there I was, unmasked, in all my Au Ra glory. I think playing as a beastman race, when so villified in ARR, would be even more immersion breaking. Though maybe they can make it work. ARR could do with a bit of finetuning anyway.
While ARR could definitely use finetuning (it was dreadful orz), it really shouldn't be retconned. The trip in the wagon when we first start our journey wasn't the issue of ARR, after all (nor was the beastman thing an issue). But yeah, I agree that they didn't handle Yugiri's surprise very well... I also agree that it would be even more jarring as a more blatant "beastman." Edit: I think there is a clear distinction between Lupin and Au Ra, though. >>;It was pretty odd playing through certain parts of MSQ due to the sense of mystery played on Yugiri's race...while there I was, unmasked, in all my Au Ra glory. You can click the edit button to add the rest of your except and then hit save. That will bypass the character cap. :3
