I just wanted to say that the Burn looks exactly what I imagined an aether-starved landscape would.

That said, Maxima stated only that they believed it was created by repeated primal summons and was already present when the Empire marched on Othard. That means it's plausible it wasn't; that something else created it, or that it's a natural phenomenon. That's pretty interesting.

I freely admit to reading way too into that.

I am curious if Alphinaud will get to ask about Gaius' mask and even notice it is his mask from back in 2.0.

I loved the way they revealed shadowhunter to be Gaius by focusing on his mask which only players who still remember 2.0 events will recognize.

Funnily enough, I don't think Alphinaud ever actually saw Gaius. He certainly never fought him the way the WoL did. The other Scions might have when they were captured by Livia back in 2.0, but Alphinaud wasn't part of that. I really don't think he'll think of it as more then one more mask for the collection.

Didn't Alphinaud see Gaius after you beat Garuda? The cutscene when you first see the Ultima weapon eat primals?

Thats true and if it was a primal or more than one why were they summoned and for how long that it can make such a big space so empty? (And lets not forget that the empire was already conquering the world before they saw that place so even if it were primals they just give the empire more reasons to tell their people why they are still at war with other nations.)

Little translation fun fact at the ship part of the MSQ:

In the German version the pirate leader and his second in command believed that Alisaie was her brother and were surprised that it was her. This was said as the last sentence if I remember it correctly and was kinda surprised that this was not part of the english version too.

He did, that was their first encounter though I don't recall if they talked to each other

In 12 you enter the Pharos lighthouse at the ridorana cataract and climb up many floors(overcoming a variety of obstacles and a couple of their versions of primals/summons - including Hashmal and Famfrit) on your quest to retrieve a weapon to put you on equal footing with the primary antagonist. Yiazmat wasnt the final boss in this area, instead it was that games "ultimate hunt"/hidden super boss. Once you progressed the hunt sidequest to its end, the leader of Clan Centurio(a moogle named Montblanc) tasks you with killing this ultimate mark. You find it in a colosseum near the base of the lighthouse(fortunately it isnt spawned unless youre on the quest to kill it), and its 50+ million hp(keeping in mind that in the original version you didnt have normal attack options that could break 9999 damage) and super strong attacks make it a fight that can legit take several hours to defeat.

On the other hand, in Tactics if you dive into the side quests you end up spending some extra time in Goug. The father of Mustadio(one of your teammates) eventually unearths a strange device in the ruins. On inspection, you find a symbol matching the Aquarius auracite. You find the aquarius stone later on in the story, and if you bring it back there a reaction happens that causes Worker 8 to reactivate after some approx 1200 years offline. It asks for orders, and Ramza tells it to dance - which it does. Then to test its fighting skill, he orders it to "dispose of" Mustadio. It demolishes him, and the scene ends with Ramza hurrying to get him a Pheonix Down. Most of that bosses attacks in this game seem based on his moveset from that game(i dont recall if his dance was similar or not).
I know that the reference was mostly ff12 and tactics, I'm just saying that the general direction of the raid is a rmeinescence of the mirage tower+ floating citadel dungeons from ff1.
In ff1 you climb the mirage tower to reach a trasport device which teleports you to the city of lufenians which is a floating citadel in the sky. The same happens here because once you reach and defeat Belias you are at the peak of the pharos and using the teleport teleports you high in the sky in the city of goug. After that you meet construct 7 which and then yazmat which can be mirrored to the presence of Warmech before Tiamath chamber.
It's probably a very obscure reference or just an happy ending

More importantly, that would be when Gaius saw Alphinaud! I was trying to remember when they would have 'met' so Gaius could recognise Alphinaud as a Scion.

Yeah, when Gaius was high up in the air. Though given noone had trouble hearing each other despite the long distance and not really yelling that loudly I guess Alphy coulda seen the mask.
