The funny part, at least for me, comes from how the non retarded guest character reacts to all the random shit happening when you are around Hildibrand. Plus I'm not going to miss out on more story content. Especially if it involes Greg and/or Ultros.
Was never funny, in my opinion. They went waaaaaay over the top with him, and then... kept repeating themselves. Over. And over. And over. It's a shame, too, because I like the mythology around Gilgamesh.
Well I did like the ARR ones a bit better but I did enjoy the HW ones too and had quite some good laughs in it. I have not done the SB ones yet and will probably wait till the end to do this in one go.
The problem is that humor is something completely subjective. Thus its not that easy to write a questline about humor and not have people either not like it or find it stale after some time. The only thing that I feel truly missing are the great old trials.
That probably helped too. I just love how our normaly stoic character is really afraid of his mum or reacts to things. I just see my character doing this and taking his antics simply because he provides a necessary spring of humor that takes her thoughts away from all the drama and tragedy.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
They kinda hinted to the return of Greg, that aside if I have a complaint is that the 2 quests in 4.2 felt a bit a repetiton of 3.2 quests, luckily the second quest had follow-up that somewhat saved and I liked the FF6 reference in it, but I won't fault anyone for feeling a sense of dejavù
I find trashing on others for something as innocuous as their tastes in comedy to be more puerile, but to each their own. However, I can appreciate your opinion.
I think I agree, though it seemed less effective on me in SB.
Very true, too true.
^^^ This 100%
I admit, I got bored quickly when I decided to pound them out. Got through ARR and did a few in HW... and theyve just languished there. Some people find rampant stupidity funny, but there's only so much I can take. I think as others have said, it just gets repetitive.I was going through a very rough time four years ago. The Hildy quests in ARR were really my highlight. xD They ARR Hildy quests are still my favourite quests/storylines to date. Just thinking about them makes me laugh.
But for whatever reason, I just haven't found the Heavensward or Stormblood Hildy quests funny... at all. They seem a little forced, and maybe a little too serious most of the time with not enough of the ridiculous hysterics and dramatics. At least in my opinion... The quests' stories also haven't been very good... I appreciated the Vivi bit for a little bit, but...-shakes head-
Anyone else think the same?
It doesn't help that there's a lot of cutscenes and the WoL is at his most useless in cutscenes. So it turns into my character just standing around listening to a bunch of idiots do stupid things.

I did really enjoy the HS Hildy story. To me anyway it had a perfect balance of silly and serious and emotional moments. Something I enjoy most and consider a good story. It was the only story in all of HS I payed attention to for that very reason. I haven't done the SB Hildy story yet so I'll save me judgment for it when its time. That said while I did enjoy the HS story, with its lack of a trial dungeon(s) it does show SE's comment about not wanting to continue Hildy as true. They didn't put as much development time and resources into it as they did in the ARR story.Well, they actually said themselves that they didn't plan to continue Hildi after ARR, but the fan demand was so high that they did it anyway. The results is Hildi being there for the sake of appeasing fans, not because they had fun making it and I guess it shows.
FFXIV as a whole has a problem with its narration, whether it tries to be sad, funny, etc. ; they don't have the resources or tools to decently present the amount of story they want to tell, so it's just a big bag of blablablablabla talks in crap cut-scenes. ARR Hildibrand was on the better side because they put more work into it than usual (unique animations in cut-scene and boss battles)

I definitely don't think they can be "grinded" (ground? how do I word?) like MSQ. It would be like binge watching Adam Sandler movies and that would definitely get to be too much. Going at it at an easier pace helps it keep fresh and a good pick-me-up when you need it. And honestly, for the last point... the WoL is just a door mat. He/she's always standing around and going with the flow of others' antics and plans.
