I play the game to "hangout" one would say. I do events with my ls. craft. blow things up with materia. run around the landscape (even though it's copy/paste). escort the chocobos through the danger that is the black shroud, and whatever else I find to amuse myself. also talking in vent while I run laps around town. lulz

the whole point is that most of that does not last very long, people have been doing much of that for months....and this games been out for over a year...and we are only getting 1 new real event, so people getting bored REALLY fast is bound to happen. They can't expect to charge us for a game where there is little to do, and lots of things wont/cant happen because we are still on these garbage servers playing in a crappy world (you even said its copy paste, which surprised me)

I still cant understand why you or anyone else is so against letting the game be free until 2.0. They clearly dont need the money (its SE, the are loaded) and they dont care how little people play, they are doing 2.0 reguardless....so why not let it be free until then? why make little money now and piss off and likely loose a bunch of potential players because you want to charge for a crappy product?

    i just dont get it.

It depends on the player really. you think there is little to do, I think there is lots to do.

Also I never said I had a problem with it being free to play till 2.0, however I dont mind paying now either, we're getting a discounted subscription price anyways.

I believe they need the money. Not in the sense that they neeeed the money or they can't pay the power bill.

But Yoshida needs to prove himself. Has he turned 1.0 into a game that displays earning potential? Is he on the right track in turning FFXIV around? Do the players support him and his development team, or will they turn away in droves once people are asked to pay? As a business, you need to see that FFXIV is going somewhere, not continuing to sink and hopelessly bleeding more money as they invest another year of development into it.

Ultimately, it's a test, and people will rate FFXIV with their dollars. That's my take on it, anyway.

Thing is, if you're not going to be satisfied with anything short of 2.0, you'll never be satisfied until then. So they may as well bring in what revenue they can with the people who can live with what they've got to offer now.

That said, I think it may be a mistake to clobber the delicate community that's left with fees at a time like this, but it's not my call to make. Hopefully, they'll choose a price that keeps more people around.

Because you don't understand things in game development costs a lot of money, and they can easily soften the blow by subbing a fee for a basic game (you pay a lot more monthly for something you should already get for free in your life, btw.)

XIV has already been free for over a year, making almost no money, you expect them to run an absolutely free MMO (-box cost) for another year with almost no profit? I'm pretty sure Square isn't self-funding this game for no reason, and sooner or later other departments will eventually feel XIV's development sting if they keep funneling money into the project but producing nothing in return.

Not our fault as customers that they put out a garbage product and said they are willing to fix it. The pity stops when they start charging, hell it stopped a while ago for most people.

So now its the game they wanted (which it clearly is not) they should re-review it now. Of course it will get slammed again and just get more bad press (the charging bit got quite a few people mad, and it made news for gaming sites)

stop giving this game a pity party. If it was any other game right now, it would be shut down or F2P a long time ago. Give us something substantial or dont expect people to pay for it. There is too many issues that cant and wont be fixed until 2.0...one of the huge ones being the joke of a copy/paste world and the crap servers. Telling people to pay for these problems knowing that a version of it that works is a year away is begging for people to leave.

The game is essentially in development. Are we both funding AND buying their product? That is preposterous. I'd like to earn some of the revenue this project makes; if were becoming investors.

This is a thread about endgame content. Not a thread about how many hours we can spend running around in circles doing literally nothing and pretending it's entertainment. There is nearly no relevant endgame content in the game at the moment. This is a fact.

To you people who have no argument other than "you guys are obsessed with loot!":

Seriously? Progression is the fundamental tenet of the entire RPG genre, and has been for I don't know.. the past 30 years? Experiencing a new fight MIGHT be fun for the first few times. After that, the reason you keep farming a boss isn't because you utterly enjoy repeating the same mechanics hundreds upon hundreds of times, it's because you need to acquire the gear to get stronger for the next challenge. It's so you get the satisfaction of equipping a piece of gear that makes you stronger, makes you look stronger, makes you hit harder, etc. Endgame players find the sense of achievement and the acquisition of rare items to be the fun.

ESPECIALLY in an mmo (at endgame), Gear is the carrot on the stick which keeps people playing and drives people to keep going through content.

Defeating a difficult boss should appropriately reward you with gear which makes you stronger and better equipped for what lies ahead. In this game, by and large, you are rewarded with garbage for what little endgame content there is. This makes absolutely no sense, and given how simple it would be for devs to fix the issue, it''s puzzling that they haven't.

I think YOU need to reread the original post.
