I main tank, and it will help me when I tank.

1 - Because I main tank, I don't need any gear from the 24-man raid for my tank. My tank purchases highest-tome gear which can (eventually) be upgraded beyond 24-man-raid-level-gear anyway.
2 - I am now free to roll (and have a better chance at getting) gear for my 2 alts - Monk and Scholar.
3 - I usually go DPS in 24-man raids just so I have a chance at getting gear for my Monk.
4 - I can now tank the raid anyway, and have an equal chance at getting gear for my alt classes.

So, I wouldn't worry about how this will "affect tanks."
You do have a point that a super-casual-tank-main or someone looking for gear for their alt-tank will have a harder time (rolling against none to now rolling against 7 others).
And I agree.
I just think this the original scenario had it's ups-and-downs, and this new scenario has it's ups-and-downs. I'm willing to see how it goes and see if it's better overall instead of just worse for one very specific situation.

I still have my own general reservations about the system:

1 - Tanks are generally not-in-demand for 24-man raids. It's almost always DPS (and sometimes healers) that have the fastest q for the 24-man raids. Tanks usually have the slowest q for these instances. Therefore, I'll likely still run as Monk anyway. But we'll see.
2 - When rolling on a piece of gear, there are ALWAYS 7 other potential-rollers now. Instead of maybe 1 or 2 to beat. That just seems, well, more difficult to get what you're looking for. Regardless of class/role choice. With lockout, though, this will make people choose when to roll and when not to. So, really, maybe it won't be too bad?

At this point, I'm willing to give it a shot and see what it feels like.
