World firsts are always monitored and if anything recognized by yoshida and the dev team.
There's not a true ranking but there's an implicit one

Not to mention that it happened that world first racers talked with the dev team from time to time in interwiews.

I know and I would find booster there horrible. I just wanted to point out that there is still no official ranking ingame thus if you dont watch streams or visit other sides you wont know who beat it world first. I am not sure but PVP does have at least an official ranking on this side. Does something similiar exit with names, pictures and stuff like that for savage too? My point was more that if you truly just count something as a win if it has official rankings (as in ingame or at least linked to the site of FF14) than savage would not fall under that.

Well tbh on KR servers they (as in the company running FFXIV in CN/KR not SE itself) will give prizes for the first ultimate coil kill.

As for Savage, It existed on the forums I think, not an official one, but it's more likely for ppl to find out who cleared savage first than the richest guy in the realm I'd say. As said that part of the game is a cesspool, trough the achievements you can know who cleared savage first sorta, but you can't really find who got to the gil cap first.
And really after get your mansion you are pretty much done with gils, true you can buy tons of potions and crafted gear, but you are more than likely sell those than using them to do savage.
The economy in this game is simply too much broken before even bots, retainers or anything.

While I usually hammer wow, imho their economy is better with BMAH since it exist only for one reason alone which is burning money, it doesn't help that every market has been killed off recently
