At this point you’re losing me. It was my assumption that you weren’t sure how moogle coins would work, and I explained it, simple as that. I also assume that if someone has items in their retainers, that they got them from playing the game.
Now, as far as your argument goes: I’m also not spitting on anyone. From what I gather from reading in multiple threads on this, there are actually a number of crafters and gatherers who are concerned about the implications of these transactions especially considering how prevalent bots are in gathering/mb and pvp these days. If the coins are based in micro transactions, it could easily give players with more disposable income an edge over everyone else on the mb, which could make it more annoying or even harder for you and your friends to earn gil by selling on markets that they decide to constantly undercut. Maybe it wouldn’t be that big a deal to someone who camps the mb all day as is, but plenty of players take interest in the crafting/gathering side of the game that don’t have that kind of disposable time. So how major or minor of a thing this currency will turn out to be, I can’t say, but it is a legit concern even for me just leveling my crafting and gathering classes.
Honestly though, it is as Hestzhyen said below for those arguing against the app - it really isn’t so much about the real money aspect as it is about the general direction that SE is going with this app. First off, it’s basically a sub within a sub that unlocks micro transactions-one of which is an additional sub even. On top of it they promise us a thing for months (mb use through an app) only to let us use it once per day unless we cough up who knows how much money. Doesn’t matter if a player is interested in crafting or not, people don’t generally like to be nickel-and-dimed. And for me at least- I was fine with the mogstation as it was back in 2014 allowing new players to pick up items from seasonal events they missed, but I choose to pay a subscription-based game so I don’t have to deal with all these p2w tactics.

Hello~
Trying to play this game again, is it pay to win now?
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: [...]these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
I won’t answer that question for you. I’ll leave this and let you decide.
Bonus: Using the app will activate an additional favored destination designation for teleports in game.
Two plans, free & premium.
Free:
- Group chat and direct message individuals.
- Event Calendar
- Inventory Management
- Organize Inventory & Armory
- Check the mb
- Purchase/sell items on the mb (requires the use of 1 kupo nut)
- Logging in daily will provide a "kupo nut" that can be used to purchase items from the mb. (limit to number you can hold onto)
Premium:
- All free stuff
- Organize Retainer & Saddlebag Inventory
- Saddlebag Inventory doubled.
- Additional Retainer can be hired (this just adds the ability to pay them more for 1 additional retainer, the retainer is not included according to the unofficial translation)
- Additional kupo nut for logging in each day and limit to number you can hold is expanded.
Additional Currency:
Forgotting to use the app or just don't want to wait, you can buy moogle coins that work the same as kupo nuts!
Coins can be used for putting items up for sale, revising listings and purchasing items from the mb.
The companion app portion of the live letter can be watched here.
I remember a few months ago we were complaining about this game heading towards P2W. I remember people saying oh this game will never have p2w ever..
We are now going to see a coin that people can buy, and people will be able to play the market even further.. This will now affect raiding, crafting ect..
I hope they think really hard on this before it goes live..

Locking a standard UI feature (moving items from retainer to retainer directly) behind a sub in a sub model game? are we in subception now? sorry your statement is pure white knight one, but why should I expect anything different from you. Did Square EAnix make a bargain with xzibit? Are we going to face a true merger and have Square EAnix? The person you where quoting was most likely asking that in sarcastic way. Even if buying gear and such off the MB is not necessary and gil does not really gate anything, it is still a fact this is moving MB play, esp those that 70%-100% their game time to MB/crafting/gathering PTW. The game as a hole may not move to PTW because lets be honest there is no real value in status in this game anyway, from the quick turnover rates they have for gear and content. Anyway, its just some like crafting a lot to see how much gil they can get or something. It does not change the fact this is making it PTW and the retainer fees was already on that line on its own. Now you have to pay for currency to price undercut so your stuff sells? 90% of the time, the top item is what sells, so you need to spam undercut to sell something.
microtranactions on top of a sub on top of sub, expect people not to be happy.
Also consider the total we are faced with:
1. sub cost
2 retainer sub cost
3. overpriced mog shop items, most not account wide
4. them not putting enough money into the game
pretty insulting when you put all 4 together, no way are we getting 33 dollars + overpriced side stuff, worth of content per month.
I want to see proof for the validity of these costs to us, this is insane.
nice to hear someone posting by someone that takes crafting and gathering seriously, there is not a lot of players that do.No, you ARE punished for not using it. Maybe to YOU it's no big deal but as a "market board PVPer" who already competes with bots it's absolutely a huge punishment to me. I'm studying for my degree in Japan and guess what? I'm at lab all day, so my time is limited as you mentioned. But that doesn't mean that I want to pay for some stupid app so I can update my stuff during lab. I'M WORKING, I shouldn't be playing on some app on my phone anyway. But now, as it stands most people update their price only when they're online. So at least when I get the chance to play, it generally isn't so bad. I can list an item and keep it up at the same price for hours. I can only imagine how much more often people will be updating prices with these new changes...it's really going to suck.
You can say it doesn't punish you but when your enjoyment comes from crafting/gathering, then yes. It does. There's just no reason for this. Paid items should not give advantages. Who do you think has the advantage in market board PVP? The player who can update whenever with their phone or the player who can only update when they can get online? Sure there will always be people who have no life and play all day but they're kind of a minority compared to people who only play a few hours a day. No big deal. But when literally anyone who is willing to pay $5 extra gets that advantage while those who are already at their limit of spending power at the sub + retainer fees....well, to me that's not right.

It's not pay-to-win if you can't buy some kind of battle booster that makes you stronger or receive less damage or something. This is all harmless stuff. If gil earning potential is p2w, that's already been attacked by RMT and botting since forever.
I'm very easy going with this kind of stuff. It's a business. Pay if you like it, don't if you don't. The app plugs right into the marketboard and character data so it's gonna be extra stress on servers and something they have to monetise to get approval for the project.
I'm already paying double what I spend for a sub in other MMOs to pay for an inventory expansion other MMOs give you for free, while watching as the cash shop offers mounts that cost more than a F2P game sells theirs, and now there's an app coming, which other MMOs offer for free, that has most of the actual useful features locked behind a paywall. I'm really starting to regret keeping my sub up. I should really just go back to Monster Hunter.
