I loved the SB progression with the aether currents, and alot of them being locked behind story areas, it meant you could explore more. Flying does help with gathering/hunting and all other non-story stuff tho.

That is one of my favorite things to do. You have to explore and discover things, work out how to reach the high places on foot. I love exploration. That feels like mmo to me but I only get to do it once every couple of years on an xpac release.
I'm all for a mixture of grounded exploration content and flying zones. Part of what makes flying less interesting is lack of vertical design. I think HW was a bit more that way with floating islands at different elevations and mountains and stuff that necessitated flight.
I would be interested in a kind of content that makes you search for stuff like we did with aether currents, but it would have to be randomly generated layouts like potd to stay fresh. Actually nevermind, people with map hacks just reveal hidden items without searching and break the content.

Flying and swimming are both pretty much worthless they havent actually added anything the game except massive empty areas of lifelessness. The ruby sea for example is what 80% water and empty. There's nothing worthwhile in the water. Or the skies.
I also find it quite laughable that flying monsters can't chase or attack you.. If they shrank the zones and got rid of flying and swimming it wouldn't matter to anyone. It'd still takevthevexact same time to get from a to b.

No flying in 5.0: Would it be better?
Absolutely not. What a ridiculous idea.

You are not the only one.
I would like to have the Devs take a look on this thread and deactivate the ability to fly for these people who are against flying.
How long would it take for them to open a Thread called "Give me back flying"?
I know this wont happen, but it would be funny to see how these people would rage on the forum.
What's the point of adding ridiculous costs to transportation, other than being pointless and annoying? Gil flows like water in this game, so either the price of aetherytes needs to go up to match (making it impossible for new or poorer players to travel by them continuously. It's a nonsensical punishment) or coming up with some new form of currency.
In 1.0 they had a currency for teleport called anima, which is basically like leve allowances. Every 4 real life hours you would regen one point and it capped at 100 IIRC. You would then spend anima to teleport. Depending on the distance it could be 12 hours (3pts) for just one teleport. So you could still teleport, but it was only a couple times per day if you used them regularly. Way later they added it as a reward for some other content but the launch version was basically that. What's the point of adding ridiculous costs to transportation, other than being pointless and annoying? I don't think many people liked the system so it was scrapped in the transition to 2.0 to what we have now which is basically a modified version of GW2's waypoint system.
Honestly an about face now on flying/etc would be a disaster IMO, since they just added faster mount speeds. Feels like they are going in the opposite direction and making it easier to travel.

Pretty sure the only thing that would make me say "no flying" is if we had an entirely aquatic expansion (which would make flying pointless anyway).
Also have to remember that WoW tried this before. It did not end well.
Except that you have to run around on foot until you can complete the msq/side quests for aether points and of course collect the non quest versions, at which point you've ran through the zone and seen all there was to see. Putting up another gate to transportation in overworld will undoubtedly push players not to care about the zones after they've leveled, that includes hunts, fates (what little people do of them), gathering, etc. Add in extra fees and people won't care about the zones and will be abandoned after they do all the necessary MSQ related stuff.
I don't wish to repeat WoW's mistakes in which you have to pay for the license to fly each and every expac, wait till max lvl, do achievements and all of that just to fly. Also the port fees are fine, now I wouldn't mind paying for airships and ferries if they were akin to that of XI where you could do stuff, fight mobs, have real time and all that but I suspect people wouldn't want that anymore than being stuck on the ground.
