my experience with the jp community in ffxiv has been positive. i can read kanji so i can understand the gist of what the jps are asking for when i see their grind pt shouts. i always send the shouter a tell in full auto-translation asking if i could join the party, including my battle class and level and a smiley face. never hurts to be extra nice when you're communicating with them. during the parties, the leader, knowing that i am the only english speaker in the party, would take extra patience to type out important commands in auto-translate. the only time i had trouble understanding them was when i made the mistake of using google translate to say "hello" and "thank you for inviting me" in japanese...they thought i was jp so it made the communications later much harder to understand lol. i also always remember to say thank you and the polite farewell phrases and bow after the party is over. extra courtesies are always encouraged when playing together with jps.

also, i have never seen any shouts on trabia with "jp only." maybe i'm just lucky.

I love having like one Japanese speaking player in our party and when you are asking them or telling them to do something and they just sit there... your like wtf. Then they say, {I do not speak English} we are like lmao.

It has brought a lot of funny gaming moments sometimes. Also, a couple of patches ago, I actually grouped up with all Japanese people. I think it was in the morning. We got a lot done, and the language barrier wasn't that bad. Yeah it was time consuming, but it was still fun. They also play a lot better than some English players hehe

However this should make more sense to you:

World of Warcraft = American Product.

Final Fantasy XI/XIV = Japanese product with international servers.

People go into these two games knowing it's a game based and from Japan with servers with Japanese people and originally had no plans for segregated servers, if that's such a huge problem why did people even play it to begin with?

You're required in American school system to take Spanish, so you pretty much understand exactly what I mean by other nations having to take English courses.
1st of WoW is sold everywhere. and guess what? they have different lanaguages but to my knowing (as i never played wow beore in my life) they have the correct servers for it.

America is divese ... but we do not need to learn JP.

Next, ff11 and ff14 is the ONLY MMos with international servers. SE is changing that. so this point is moot.

Lastly Your wrong. Other nations learn ENGLISH. When i was in school another langauge was NOT required to pass. Again as i said before if we were to need to learn another speak in america (AMERICA).. it be spanish NOT JAPANESE

You clearly missed my whole point so ill start it again.

No body buying a product in America should have to learn basic JP to use it!

Wait, you can read Kanji but cannot speak the language? How much Kanji can you read? There's thousands, and a few hundred required for basic communication, and 2000 (Last I checked) for high school proficiency. Did you perhaps mean hiragana/katakana?

Personally, I know about 30 Kanji and hiragana/katakana. I know maybe 100-200 vocabulary words, and so far have managed to wrap my head around a few particles like wa/ga, to/ya, ne/yo, and ni. Many of them still confuse me.

Or, maybe you learned Chinese? Many of the Kanji have different meanings in that respect, though. I... think. Not too too sure.

Someone buying a product in America knowing before hand that it's from a Japan based company with international servers with Japanese players... would think about it.

yup i'm chinese born and raised ^^. (note: not rmt even though my chocobo is named horsebird tyvm.)

jp shouts for parties usually included class names in kanji which are the same in chinese (even if they are antiquated terms) and levels in roman numerals. so super easy for me to understand and sneak in to the party undetected hehe.

Seriously... I didn't want to touch the subject, but I'd have to agree. I'm also from AMERICA but nationality to that extent really has no place in intelligent society anymore. The internet has changed the ball game.

People should learn to be diverse and open. Accept new social challenges and adapt.
