The real kicker is since almost all of the content in this game has no real difficulty to speak of, when you come back and run it with higher ilevel players, it's not any less challenging. It's just faster, and it's not any more or less interesting than it was at release.
It's possible that their hands are tied, I suppose. Ultimately, FFXIV saw a lot of success - and a lot of that is due to the NA and EU communities. With that in mind, it makes sense to take our opinions into account. At least when constructive feedback is offered up on a platter.
Yet it's clear from interviews that stuff is being lost in translation. Yoshi-P is aware that a lot of players want to see more customisation options, for instance...but his last statement on the matter involved him saying he wants 'specifics'. Yet that is something that has been given for years by quite a lot of players.
Fast? Its not like some of us have been playing for years? And even if I level up all my jobs it would still be with the same content that I already did so much before..I can either throw myself at the next x amount of Fates that I already did enough, throw myself in the dungeon that I already did x amount of runs or throw myself in the Palace which I have already seen a big amount of time since I try to do it solo..(and which is bad with all the laggs and DC right now) Diadem is death..I tried to go into this for mats twice and stoped the queue after like an hour of nearly being alone in it..So there is simply no other content (outside of PVP but PVPers dont like that people just use that for leveling and dont take it serious enough..which I can understand) where I can level up my characters which is something completely new...heck Eureka has its own level system so we cant even level there.
So no I will not accept the argument that just because you dont have everything on max does not mean someone cant complain...and all the mini games are just side flavour that you do if you are bored..but again SE made them a huge RNG grind.
Housing and crafting right now is the only part that keeps me logged in..but not everyone cares about that..you simply need at least one or two new battle systems in an expansion otherwise people will lose interest, especially if we have to pay for the expansion itself and the sub and on top of that lost a dungeon.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
I'd say that the real reason we lost the extra hard mode dungeon is because otherwise we would've run out of dungeons of which making hard mode by now.
Remember that they are made them because they simply reskins existing dungeons to cut dev time, imho what they said about focusing on other projects might be true, but the dev time saved by cutting the dungeon frankly doesn't add up
I mean it was a PR stunt, it's like when yoshida said creator was going to have something no1 ever did in a MMO, you know it was not going to happen.
Or like when blizzard said that garrison would've been buildable on all draenor's zone, that too was not going to happen
edit: mmmh the rewards are picking my interest and seems they want to invalidate what I did yday yei

@Remedi: But then they should not go out of their way to say that we will get new content for this. Because I am not much of a fan of dungeons since they are mostly boring but it was still something that the majority of the playerbase did and its a bit different if you have at least one more dungeon in the roulette instead of a coin flip. If this was nothing but PR talk and we just lost another part of our regular content for nothing...well then shame on them!
You know what I would like as a new kind of content (and maybe its something from other games..I dont know I did not play 11 or WoW):
Have worldwide messages that certain settlements are under attack. Maybe not the main cities but they could create the settlements all around the world for that. (So that players from all levels can do it a bit) People can either ignore the message or they can go to the settlements and defend it. Unlike fates it should be a bit more difficult and you should see the destruction the attack causes. Put some necessary ventors there and people will try to defend it. If they dont manage to do it, its first lost to the enemy and will look even worse. But people can still either get it back or maybe it will be released by the actions of the city states a few days later. Then you can have personal quests for crafters and gatherers. Gatheres could harvest special plants for medicine, something to eat for the people there or just stuff for rebuilding things. And the crafters can give them special items too. You will have a time limit of maybe a few real life days to do the quests and there will be an overall tracker and if the necessary amount of things are done, the settlement will be back to its original state at the end of the timer. This way people can help if they want and next to exp they could gain a special currency which they than can use to buy special items. This way you will have a carrot but imo this is way more fun than a simple fate and would feel like we did something for the world. This was just for one settlement but they could have lots of more all around the world and the more you help the more you could also gain some kind of reputation and maybe even unlock more stuff there and have people talk different to you too.

It seems you people dont value what you have.
I come from a free mmorpg created by Gameforge. There the dungeons arent synced. Before 90 you are trash, and when you reach level 90 is when you can begin to enjoy the game a bit. Necessary items for upgrading weapons and armours are all paid with real money. But they let people trade them, so people who can spend money control the market and they put abusive prices. Enhancement rates for gear are ridiculously low too, doesnt matter if you spend money or not. They make roulettes and loot cages too without revealing the success/fail rates. PVP is seriously unbalanced too. And some jobs are clearly better than others causing endless debate.
In other games you even havent small features. They release main quests and a couple of new dungeons with new gear and thats all. My point is this game is nearly as boring/abusive how you are painting it
Again, it's not about not appreciating what we have, rather we don't want something we love to stagnate and wither on the long run. We begin to see negative effects form the repeating formula and so we discuss how and why we feel this way. If we didn't care, we'd have silently unsubscribed by now.
They will work to new content in place of the ones we lost the point is that the dev time spent on hard mode was not that much because they were working on something they already created, that's the whole reason why we won't have AV, toto.rak, cutter's cry and dzemael, they would need to recreate the dungeons again to make them work for an hm.
Meanwhile new content from the ground up is time intensive to make and time is a finite resource, with the relatively fast update schedule we have there's not really a great deal of time to really make something unique, that's also why I said Wow patch cycle doesn't introduce much either, because they pool most resources to make a somewhat new system for the next expansion, while sometimes their patches have features that takes 15 mins to make like the selfie cam (their words, not mine)
Found your problem.
I'm paying for a service here. If they can't provide value to justify their subscription - they certainly aren't helping matters with this cash shop horseshit - then I stop paying for the service. Easy-peasy. It's even easier these days when everyone and their mother is releasing "Games as a Service," and the MMO genre has a plethora of free-to-play games (of varying quality).
