This is an issue for me healing as AST. I'll switch over to Nocturnal Sect to give shields, we wipe because WHM isn't using any dot healing, so we wipe, and I have to go back to Diurnal... why...
How small you are, for such a great destiny.

Holy toledo! About two hours ago, I actually got screamed at today in Duty Finder for using fell cleave in Heavensward content. This was an exciting moment for me personally, because I've never been yelled at by a healer before for dpsing, and now that it happened, I feel like I've joined the stonecutters or something! This was the Aery too, nothing hard or anything; I still had equilibrium and lots of other short cooldowns, so there was really nothing to worry about, but this white mage told me after the first boss fight to stay in defiance or he was going to let me die. I was shocked! "Why?" I ask. "Because tanks tank, and dps dps."
I told him to check out my gear, we'll seriously be fine and I wasn't taking that much damage. This guy's wearing HW greens and blues, and his WHM was the only job he had leveled, so I really didn't think he understood how things worked in this game. And this guy starts laying into me about how he's been healing for ten years, and giving me his credentials, and just letting me know how dumb I am for talking (typing) back, and I know I should be getting pissed, but I am ecstatic because finding someone this wrong about EVERYTHING while also being super-hostile towards those who know better is like finding a unicorn, and I'm like super happy! And he just keeps talking! The dragoon starts sticking up for me and he and the healer really start going at it, and finally, he just sits down and tries to votekick him. Like, holy shit, what is even happening here? He refuses to move, after the dismissal fails, and then he starts screaming at us (Typing in all capitals) and I'm wondering if this guy is having a hard day or something?
So I ask him. I ask him if he's okay, I ask him how his day is going? And honest to God, I don't even what's happening at this point with this fellow, he's just acting really off-center, and then he asks me to stay in defiance, because he gets really anxious. Like so anxious that it makes it hard for him to breath, and he was sorry he acted out that way, but he couldn't help it. And then I felt really uncomfortable because seeing someone act out and then confess a personal vulnerability to a stranger was waaaay too real a moment for me. So I write "Okay, whatever," and I stayed in defiance for the rest of the run, and we cleared it. He even commed me.
I hate how it started out fun, and then changed over time into a small glimpse into someone else's personal pain. I am not suited for moments of startling intimacy.

Dayum.
That's just...I mean, it still doesn't excuse his behaviour. The choice we make at the end of the day makes us who we are. He could've chose to actually explain himself that he wasn't comfortable with it. Instead, he opted for the more aggressive approach about it.
Still...dayum
Healing DRK is literally... the same since ShB. The reason why people think it's a meme to heal nowadays because DRK receives very little to no buff to their sustainability vs 3 other tanks getting something useful. If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.
Crikey, I can understand the anxious healer bit (having had to deal with that myself), if they see damage is barely tickling you, that should have put their mind at rest but it sounds like they've got anxiety really bad D: Then again if I had a bad day I wouldn't touch the DF a with a barge pole!
As first-time melee dps in the Chrysalis today, I thought I had to soak the damage for meteors, and didn't lb the Aetherial Tear. So I'm so sorry to the healers in there for that mess up, I was sooo embarrassed D:
You would hate my buddy. They give balance to the lowest DPS and cheers them on feeding them words of encouragement.
Well I understand since when I play healer and things start to get messy I don't really feel comfortable and like you I wouldn't have touch DF for some times but I think just asking the tank and explaining you aren't really comfortable with your heals should have been the way to go.
Also we all did some dumb mistake like I remember doing Praetorium for the first time with a new character and I totally forgot to attune and couldn't use the magiteck... thanksfully someone told us (I wasn't alone here) to take the elevator and click the thing to be able to use the mount.
Oh yeah I definitely agree there about communicating with your party, I've always spoke up about being anxious if it's my first time, especially on healing or tanking (haven't got my DRK past level 40 yet) and people have been really good and helpful, for the majority (I've been really lucky in DF I guessWell I understand since when I play healer and things start to get messy I don't really feel comfortable and like you I wouldn't have touch DF for some times but I think just asking the tank and explaining you aren't really comfortable with your heals should have been the way to go.

). I'm glad I'm not the only one who makes daft mistakes!

I know ive seen a couple occasions where the AST was running the content with a friend. They would feed most of the cards to their friend either out of force of habit, or because they know them and trust them more then some random guy(me) to put the card to good use. As others have said, some people have a system or ranked priorities. Some people do it based on assumed(or parsed) damage - or worse, based on enmity(which if one person is using their skills and the other isnt can be highly misleading). And im positive there are some who just toss the cards out more or less randomly too. My advice is not to focus on it too much or worry too hard.
My argument is "the fight won't be faster" and by extension that the primary role of a dps is to make the fight as quick as possible. This is an important distinction. Fleche is a dps increase, but higher DPS does not always mean the fight is shorter.
Here is a simple example:
11 mobs have 10 hp each.
Player A consistently deals 1 AoE dmg per GCD
The fight ends in 10 GCDs.
Reset and add Player B.
Player B does single target dmg only
10 dmg per GCD
With both A and B damaging mobs, the fight ends in 10 GCDs
Reset and replace Player B with Player C.
Player C does a 1 dmg AoE, then goes AFK.
With both A and C damaging the mobs, fight ends in 9 GCDs.
Player B's DPS was higher than player C's DPS, but Player C's DPS caused the fight to be shorter.
Player B's fight technically had a dead mob faster, but in C's fight they were killed at a faster rate.
If you're using in an AoE fight as nothing but a DPS increase, you're not necessarily adding value.
