I really don't like the maps either. but as a disclosure, I don't gather or craft, so I dont come across maps or have the money to buy them. My only experience with them is when I'm offered to back-fill parties needing a DPS and then im subject to "need only on your maps" which to me is saying "i will get nothing for my work". So I don't even bother joining.
waahhhhhhhhh. i can't get everything i want easily. wahhhhhhhhhhhh

An example from GW2. To wear a barefoot "armor", you need to cough out that much gold. To put in perspective, 2500 gold can buy you a one-handed legendary weapon in that game - the best kind possible.
In short, devs' way of giving people things to do to keep them amused (probably).
it's almost like.... they want you to play longer.... so you'll give them more money.............. weird..........
They/them pronouns
Glamor IS the end game. Weather its minions or armor or a frilly dress they all require some kind of effort. What I think you want RiyahArp is things to be handed to you without going through the effort. Keep in mind most not all but most dungeon minions can be bought from the MB but even getting gil for them takes some kind of effort the mounts take totems or rather will take totems but those too take effort the fact is you NEED to put in effort to get the stuff you want. For example I want a flying chair mount I cant craft it but I have friends who can or I can buy it off the MB (I also want a small Lav Beds house but thats a different kind of effort). I cant just be like “Hey you give me a flying chair because I want one.” I need to offer something either the mats or gil.
TL;RD: You wont be handed things just because you dont want to put in the effort.
I put in plenty of effort. I am just starting to wonder why its easier and takes less time to get high end endgame gear than relatively useless stuff. I can literally buy a house for cheaper than a minion. I spent a grand total of 300k or less and maybe one hour getting 4 levels in a craft because levequests are so dirt cheap, and can max a combat class in a week or so, but the optional stuff is just weird in how much time it takes. I have plenty of things already that take a lot of time to get. The only thing that seemed ok with effort and time balance were the relics when current; they took decent effort, but it wasn't absurd effort, and they directly added to power.
people will pay absurd amounts of gil for various things. what else is new? i pity the person that spent 20 mil on a mameshiba when it first came out. they are so much more cheaper now. must new shiny must have!
things that can be traded will always be more difficult to obtain in an mmo just because of that.
It's meant to fuel the economy
people that do maps make money from money and random drops along with some rare drops
people that gather make money selling the gathered items
people that garden make money selling rare crossbreeds
people that do deep dungeon make money selling gold coffer loot
people that craft make money selling their creations
people that do the hunt make money selling materia
etc etc
you make it out like in order to get something you have to manually do every step of it.
You just have to do something and trade for the stuff you need for your goal
Oh no! I hope every turned out alright.
We all appreciate your well thought out contribution to this thread.
I feel this is the correct answer. As Koko wrote, glamour is the end game. Many of those "simple" pieces are worn like Olympic medals.Well, it might show you where SE's priorities are. Omega Savage is completely obsolete now. Deltascape Savage will be too after a time. A mount or minion will never become obsolete.
