Fun fact, the /lockstyle feature was added in FFXI 1 month after the mirage system of FFXIV.

At least one of those games is smart enough to take ideas from the other...

and you are? stop making excuses for them, no reason to be handing out a 5% finished system a game's second expansion. They clearly cut corners in hoping this was enough to make people happy

It is interesting to me how bad a glam system could be made.

"baby step" is fine or would of been fine in 2.0, not now, they intentionally cutted corners.

I just wish that they would do some surveys ingame. Like one month after a big patch goes live or after we have another big feature in the game, they would ask you to fill out a survey ingame. It should not be mandatory but at least that way they might get more opinions about something and maybe even more ideas.

Right now they only have the forum to gather some deeper opinions about certain features but nobody really knows if those opinions are the minority or if more people are seeing it that way.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Most people like it, it could just be a lot better.

Eventually I'd like to see a plate that clears all glamours from your current gear. But for now we still have dispellers. Great start so far and I can't wait to see this system evolve.
It's an interesting concept that has a few flaws to it. My husband loves it, though I'm a bit wary of it, mainly at the 'destroying' of gear part. Perhaps I'll use it in the future once I get down some solid gear sets I like and make a plate of them. Til then, I will still be using the glamour prisms.

I don't dislike it. No matter how clunky and flawed it might be, the fact that it exists lets us know SE at the very least acknowledges the constraints from the previous glamour system.

The reason I don't use it is because it is so new and in the testing phase of its implementation. It doesn't improve my QoL because the constraints that are no longer there are replaced with new ones. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think this new system only lifts the previous constraint of using multiple glams on a single piece of gear. Unfortunately, players are now forced to use an inn to access it, can no longer change jobs on the fly wherever they are and retain their chosen appearance, only have 200 slots making the destruction of gear unfavorable, and a limited amount of plates (I can literally use all 10 on my WHM alone).

Figuratively speaking, it's like building a new convenience store, but placing it at the top of a hill.

Personally, though I can see that there are flaws, I like that it's better than what we had before.

You access the inn to put items in the dresser and set up the plates, but once that’s done they can be applied anywhere in cities.

The system doesn’t have any effect on your ability to change jobs - plates work independently of gearsets - it just hasn’t (completely) added the hoped-for ability to have multiple glamour sets attached to the same gear. It’s still made it more possible than the old system, which didn’t allow it at all (unless you wanted to manually re-glamour each piece of gear each time you switched, which I doubt!).

For example, currently if you’ve got white mage and scholar sharing the same gear, you will have had to either work out one glamour that works for both of them, or use one’s job-specific gear so the other defaults to the original gear appearance.

If you create glamour plates for those jobs (plus a ‘shared costume’ plate if you want to be able to revert to it), you could apply the plate after equipping the gear set in a city, and then it will set the gear’s glamours to that appearance - the final effect is just like having glamoured each piece via the old system, except it’s instant, repeatable and doesn’t consume prisms.

The downside for now is that you need to apply the plate each time you want to change the appearance (though as opposed to not being able to do it at all), and you’d need to plan ahead if you’re going to be changing jobs out in the field where plates can’t be applied.

It’s worth experimenting with putting some easily replaceable gear in the dresser (or building plates from pieces in the Armoire) if you’re not comfortable with putting items in there. Just remember you’re directly glamouring over your current appearance, so don’t do it while wearing anything with fancy glamours or dyes.

Also, don’t forget that the old system is still 100% in place. Nothing has been taken away from us If you really don’t want to use the dresser.
