I don't have exact quotes from the ingame help texts at hand now but I did re-read to check and they do strongly suggest the plate is something the look is related on, and no where even mention using a plate removed the current glamour of the item. In hindsigt it seems sensible but that's another point which has caused people to rage, loosing the existing glamour while the helps suggest the look is related to the plate, not actually putting it on gear.

In related note, they really should put SAMand RDM starter gear on salvager but that's whole another jar of worms.

I just remembered why this new system is still not on par other MMOs. It's limited by consoles, or rather just the PS4. As powerful as the PS4 is, there is only so much it can do when compared to a PC. I really hope I'm wrong though on this one but it does sorta make sense the more you think about it.

I can see that. The patch announcements didn't really clarify that it was a template that actually PUT the glamours on things and not an overlay either.
I just don't understand the fear, now that we DO know what it does, being so bad that people are absolutely refusing to use it at all. Even if you ONLY throw things you KNOW can be replaced in it, you're saving yourself space, or gil required to rebuy it, AND guaranteed you're saving yourself a prism (past the first use of course) .

People gonna hate, people gonna like what they like I guess.

Currently mine is full of all the stuff my 70's wear, a templar set, my crafting set, my gatherer set and an absolute buttload of all the other things I like the look of but cannot find a current use for (both odin sets) . The only thing I hesitated to glamour immediately was the "uniform" I use for my squad, since it's not easy to get stuff on them glamoured. I haven't actually tried using the same trick I use for my retainer on the squadron members.

I agree with you here, that's probably the reason why... I have no idea how coding and programming works but you explained it really well. Now I've lost hope... One can dream! There is actually another mmo besides ff11/14 that allows ''all classes'' into 1 character but their vanity system is vastly different (The Secret World) since there is technically no armour...so it's basically incomparable...
In RIFT armour is also class restricted, but if you ''collect'' the style into your dresser (like the glamour dresser) then your character can wear literally anything. So I can be a mage in full plate armour. But they kept the armour and vanity separate, so for example if I upgrade my boots I don't have to go to the dresser and constantly click ''apply'' to update the look.

I mean I don't mind if they take the time to lift glamour restrictions, as long as it's worked on I'm happy

Unfortunately, remains one of the exceptions for gear you can't obtain ever again. Either needs to be allowed in the Armoire, or Salvager needs to offer them.
But, I suppose you don't really lose out by dumping them in the Dresser. It's not like I had any intention of ever actually wearing the gear. In fact, I may never even glamour it, but at least in the Dresser, that remains an option, while freeing up those inventory slots.

I didn't realise how flawed the system was until I had already emptied two retainer's worth of glam items to the dresser. It's good to get space, sure, but I'm so annoyed I can't change the order of the glams (like I did with the items in the retainer inventory) or change my glamour easily anymore when getting several gear pieces in a dungeon/raid. Having all jobs at 70 doesn't help. I was all starry-eyed when I thought I could have a healer circlet with paladin armour and have different outfits on each tank, but nope. Should've known it was too good to be true.

Frankly, I'm so bummed by this that I might just unsub. Glamour is my endgame, but I've been gradually losing interest in this game. The story doesn't tickle my fancy the same way it did in Heavensward and most of my old ingame friends have gone to the four winds and I've been thinking about giving up on my house, even though I'm very proud of the decoration and have stayed subbed since housing was introduced for the sake of said house. This glam business is just the final nail on the coffin.

Guess I can just hope they have stuff fixed by the next expansion and return then, since it seems to bother me so much. *shrug*

Or rather than this short-sighted view and shaming the PS4, which by the way is not nearly as limited as you are claiming, maybe it's because the game engine itself is outdated and broken, given that it's still the 1.0 engine with a lot of bandaids applied to it. Leave the PC master race comments elsewhere...like reddit.

The same was true for a long time for the "custom made <thing>" you got as reward for level 5 class quests. They were eventually added to the salvager purchases after people requested it a lot, it is not impossible they'd add the SAM and RDMgear there too if enough people asked.
