Think so or not, if you had the functionality you cared about available from the dresser, why would you ever need the item back?I don't think so, the way ffxiv is the dresser will always have a limit and the armoire is linked to it already and saves items in a minimal data state as well (doesn't need to worry about durability/spirit bond/etc)
The armoire has always been there to preserve the special stuff, they're just been bad about updating it on anything but seasonal event gear
now they have a very good reason to have a guy spend an hour adding the 50 or so items that need to go in it...

as it is now, the glamour dresser functions as an extension of the armoire. Your unique stuff + 200 whatever and the plates are like a shared function
as long as the potential for lost forever is there, I would definitely care about not being able to retrieve it at will.
There really is no reason to remove the armoire anyways. Once you take away all the variables from a piece of gear (which both the armoire and glamour dresser do) it occupies the same amount of data and they're already integrated well
This is an argument for S-E's sake as well. As a game's dev and support; would you rather have unique stuff go to the armoire and be protected or get tickets all the time about "OMG I ACCIDENTALLY THREW AWAY MY HEAD BANDAGE SAVE ME S-E!!!!!"
You cannot apply Glamours from the Dresser to your Retainers, can you? You can apply a Glamour to gear, then give it to them, but can you apply anything from the Dresser to them?
I just took the time to greate the i55 crafter green gear, all 8 sets. I use the i320/i290 all-class stuff. I equip my Weaver, and apply the plate. I switch to Leatherworker, and the gear look goes back to the default.
The only way to apply a look to your Retainers is the old way, and that means actually having the item on hand to apply it.
And .. what makes the Dresser suck for crafters is ... though the Weaver gear is saved with that look, the moment I use another plate (say, the Leatherworker plate on my LTW) because the gear is shared, it overwrites the fact that the weaver glamour plate was used, and Weaver gear goes back to looking like the old i320/290.

No you cannot glamour directly to retainers, but I don't see the workaround as any more difficult than the old way of glamouring each piece individually. Now you can remove it all, wear it, use the plate, put it back on your retainer. There is no way to apply things directly from the dresser to ANYTHING other than plates yet, though they've said they're working on that
Plates apply glamours permanently like the old system used to, it does not disappear if you change class. I have no idea how you're managing to remove glamours by switching class but not gear, people have actually been looking for a way to do this.
I don't think that only sucks for crafters, that sucks for everyone that uses shared gear, but since you CAN macro a gearchange AND a plate change just create this macro:
/gearset change 1 2
this will change to gear set 1 and apply glamour plate 2.

I think I see the problem. You are using shared gear for all of your crafting jobs and applying glamours that are specific to each crafting job. The glamour plates work exactly as if you'd applied the glamours individually, putting the glamour directly onto the gear - each piece of gear will stay glamoured until you redo it, either by applying individual glamours or another plate. So when you put on your Leatherworker plate, it's all job-specific and when your Weaver equips the gear it will simply display the base gear as the Leatherworker-specific glamour won't show for Weaver. You have to use a new plate each time you switch jobs in order to get the effect you're seeking. That's why they released the macro information for switching a gearset and glamour plate at the same time. I believe it's /gearset 1 2 (where '1' is the gearset number and '2' is the glamour plate number). They did say they are looking into tying glamour plates to gearsets in the future, too.
