as it is now, the glamour dresser functions as an extension of the armoire. Your unique stuff + 200 whatever and the plates are like a shared function

as long as the potential for lost forever is there, I would definitely care about not being able to retrieve it at will.
There really is no reason to remove the armoire anyways. Once you take away all the variables from a piece of gear (which both the armoire and glamour dresser do) it occupies the same amount of data and they're already integrated well

This is an argument for S-E's sake as well. As a game's dev and support; would you rather have unique stuff go to the armoire and be protected or get tickets all the time about "OMG I ACCIDENTALLY THREW AWAY MY HEAD BANDAGE SAVE ME S-E!!!!!"

You cannot apply Glamours from the Dresser to your Retainers, can you? You can apply a Glamour to gear, then give it to them, but can you apply anything from the Dresser to them?

I just took the time to greate the i55 crafter green gear, all 8 sets. I use the i320/i290 all-class stuff. I equip my Weaver, and apply the plate. I switch to Leatherworker, and the gear look goes back to the default.

The only way to apply a look to your Retainers is the old way, and that means actually having the item on hand to apply it.

And .. what makes the Dresser suck for crafters is ... though the Weaver gear is saved with that look, the moment I use another plate (say, the Leatherworker plate on my LTW) because the gear is shared, it overwrites the fact that the weaver glamour plate was used, and Weaver gear goes back to looking like the old i320/290.

The armoire can hold some items that have stats and aren't level 1, so I don't think it'll get lumped into the dresser.

It wouldn't be lost though. For arguments sake we'll say you'll NEVER have to empty out the dresser to make more room in this situation. You'd NEVER lose the ability to make things look LIKE the item.

If we could have a guarantee that no matter what you'd have the functionality (ability to make something look like it) available, but not the item itself anymore. Would you still hoard the item?
Nobody cries because they're going to miss the 4 def on whatever piece it is. They'd be sad because it wouldn't be available for its looks.

Here's what I'm getting at here: The system has the POTENTIAL to do this. If we can show support for what it does and ask for it to be BETTER rather than just poo-pooing the whole thing and asking for them to start over because this doesn't immediately do everything we're asking for exactly as we want it to, this might happen sooner rather than later.
However if we balk, and start to whinge about how we want the ability to take back the items and how scary it is we might lose the items and "ohhh but what about my items!" , we present the wrong message: that we care about the items. We don't. Well, from what I have heard and seen we don't. I won't presume to know everyone's mind. People might have sentimental attachments or something else as esoteric. But the majority of us (the glamouring community) care only that we can make things look like other things and that that functionality be available as freely as possible for as much stuff as possible. We don't WANT inventory clogging stuff, we want as many glamour options as possible at any given moment.
What SE might HEAR though is "please always keep the ability for us to get these items back because we care about the items themselves". I'm 99.999% sure this is NOT what the community feels.

or am I completely wrong and you all care about the actual items and want infinite inventory so you can have stuff AND glamour? (this will NEVER happen btw, not in this game and not without a complete rework of the underlying data storage and referencing)

You're talking about the +% xp items and the earrings and junk with +1 str or whatever correct?

Yeah, I see those as stumbling points, but there aren't a LOT of those and I can see those being moved to other methods of replacement/storage. it's not like anyone would really miss a 1 VIT earring for it's stats. You're sub level 15 for maybe.. 3 hours? More of course if you're taking in the sights and just exploring, but stats aren't really a "thing" until you've gotten into the job at 30. Nobody failed something because of 1 stat point and by then you'd be able to buy better gear from an NPC.

Well, I was partly thinking of Hermes Shoes, which were a bonus item in 1.0 and can't be reobtained at all but can be stored in the armoire.

There's some other level 50 stuff and achievement items I think, but I'm not sure if the calamity salvager has any of those off the top of my head.

armoire also holds AF gear which is level 45/50 and a few things that are odd levels like 15 or 30. Even some level 1 stuff that is much stronger than level 1 like asuran armguards.
But the point remains, the armoire and glamour dresser are integrated and nothing is lost by having both

why does he hate the armoire so much?

    Hate? Where'd you get hate.

The problem is you seem to think the armoire cannot be done away with and I'm suggesting they seem to be moving towards a unified system, that's all. I don't "hate" any particular aspect of the glamour system or storage.
And you just seem to ignore every other part of my post.. oh well.

I see no indication that this is a step towards phasing out the Armoire, considering it was made explicitly to work in conjunction with the Armoire.

I understand the point being made, the belief that the Armoire only exists to also hold glamour-only items. But I would expect them to maintain the Armoire as a concession. The Dresser will likely never be the only way to apply glamours as long as they continue to allow players to apply them manually (no real reason to take that away if the system just works as a shortcut), so they need to retain a way for players to recover their glamour items if they choose to disregard the Dresser: by using the Armoire.

I'm apparently explaining this poorly. I don't know how else to put it though.

Why would it be necessary for people to "recover" items if the entire purpose they had them for was for appearance? If they could (Hypothetically) glamour anything they wanted, anywhere. Why would you even need the ability to "recover" an item?

your the one that seems to be ignoring things.
We all get your "what if they just all of a sudden make the glamour dresser infinite storage and infinite plates?"

even though that will never happen, the amoire does hold things of more value than glamour. The Ala Mhigan Earring is a godsend and i used the heck out of it for example
Also, the armoire works with the glamour dresser 100% why fix something that isn't broken?
and they moved towards keeping normal glamouring rather than replacing it meaning they don't want the dresser to be the sole source

All I was ever trying to get at is, even if it is just the short term. Making the things that always should have fit in the armoire actually fit in it would make people like me use the glamour dresser right now. I'm just not going to put mog station items in the dresser and i want to use them for some of my glamours so it ruins the dressers usefulness for me

If some day in the future they decide to make the dresser into an infnite armoire, that will change it in a fundamental way and warrant a conversation about doing away with the armoire.
    but that day isn't today
