Why does the new inventory UI show less items on Expanded than before?

I'm so happy to see it doesn't annoy just me. I liked the expanded view as I could see all items at once and it looked tidy, now not only I can't see all at once but it looks more cluttered since all the free slots are in the other tab.
And seriously, why all that added quest items inv space? I think I never filled even a row, even the old one was a load of space, why so much more? It's all really offsetting.

I carry an atrocious amount of mid-quest item spam, atma book, deciphered map, etc. at pretty much all times and I'd only ever gone past the first 5x5 once. Two 5x7s is a lot, but okay, just in case. *Three*, though, is bizarre.

But you know what? It'd make sense under one condition: if they intended to have a two-page setup with 4 5x7s on one and 3 key item 5x7s plus crystals on the other, just as space fillers.. Which makes it even more bizarre and incomprehensible that that layout is missing.
