They are, for only 30 days(?) and then it goodbye gil and housing items if you don't login and pick them up by that point.

I'm actually in the same boat as the OP, more or less. I knew I'd lose my home, but was mistakenly under the impression I'd still be able to reclaim some of my gil/furnishings from the NPC. What really gets me is that I had quite a few furnishings paid for with real money through the mog shop. And yeah its my fault I guess for not being aware of the 35 day limit, but I'm at a loss as to why the limit even exists. Don't they want players to come back? I was sent all these "come back to eorzea" emails, but when I log in, I'm greeted with the realization I'd lost pretty much all my stuff, and frankly my first thought was to just log out and play something else.

and i don't agree with that method either. it should stay there permanently not some month delay. i would feel salty as a player to know what i worked for was just deleted in essence. i wouldn't come back, i would go to another game that value's my time and energy spent

I've already cancelled my sub over this. When my 20 or so days are up, I'm done. I don't want to give money to a game that treats players like this.

WoW and Star Wars the Old Republic are similar in gameplay to this. WoW has a ton more stuff to do. I played it 8.5 yrs from launch (vanilla) till I played SW. Played SW 5+ yrs. They are both viable options and as far as I know, still don't delete your stuff. In SW, you can have 4x fortresses that are all different. I heard WoW has barrack/shared style housing now but not sure. Good luck to you.

WoW does not have housing. The garrison is your "space" yes, but it's not customizable.

WoW doesn't delete your stuff but the garrison system it had didn't survive past the WoD expansion and it was absolutely nothing even remotely similar to housing.

@OP, it's a shame to hear you're quitting over this but, believe me, I understand the frustration. I hope you find a game you can enjoy for a long time.
