I've Lost Everything

Hello!

Due to a real world illness and a series of unfortunate circumstances, I was forced to end my FFXIV sub shortly after the release of SB. It was utterly beyond my control and a real bummer, as I'd been subbed since 2.2 or 2.3. (I forget which now)

I knew I would lose my house, that was a given. I was under the impression that I would be able to keep a large chunk of the money and personal items. I wasn't aware those were only held in escrow for a month, or I would have made some arrangement somehow to keep more of it.

I'm pretty distraught. I've had that house forever. My wife and I had a lot of fun there. After I got it I pretty much stopped trying to make money. I poured tens of millions into it and spent weeks and months grinding for that. All of my Gil value was tied up in it... now it's just gone.

When I contacted the GMs they told me to come to the forums to ask about it, but I kinda get the feeling I'm getting the run around.

Can confirm that you were given the runaround, I'm afraid.

If Square wants to do the auto-demolition, fine, but they really should remove the arbitrary 30 day time limit on Gil (and item?) recovery. ...I mean they won't because they want to force you into staying subscribed/coming back, but y'know.

sorry for your loss but dems the breaks unfortunately with the amount of updates this game gets you have to stay on top of news if you want to stay current on existing game policies.

As someone who was/is new to the housing thing...the first thing i saw when i got the tour was the warnings of what happens when you don't stick around.... sadly i'm afraid your at a loss at this point.
Maybe someone generous enough will be able to help restore some of that.

with housing being a contested subject right now - SE will not reimburse you for your lost property. I just do not see that happening.

Not sure why they pointed you here....but as i said perhaps a helpful soul will help you put it back together.

I feel for you after losing all you put into the game due to real life happening. This is a game where if real life does happen, just don't plan on coming back if you can't log in or have someone do it for you. There are plenty of upstanding games out there that do not take advantage of their player base's misfortunes. Just find one and move on.

Honestly I think that's a little too harsh to direct at SE.

30 Days is more than generous....especially for a very limited resource.
And its not unusual for many games to implement such ideas to that degree.
This IS a game after all....people need to remember that when real life happens...the game is secondary...and stop being surprised when you come back that things have happened as they have happened. Not that much different than real life. If its that important to you to keep that stuff from going upside down - then take action - have someone help you out. <not going to take it any further than that for obvious reasons>. It's not like we aren't capable of sorting out these problems that come up. blaming the game is a little to convenient is my point. You where warned up front..you where told what conditions where. It's not like its a "surprise" type situations...its not exploitation. If they had unlimited resources - it wouldn't be an issue - but they don't.

Yes life happens and your not likely going to think of your game stuff being all that important...but it really comes down to you or the user taking responsibility for ones assets. virtual or otherwise.

I think there's some confusion over the timings in question:

Houses are demolished after 45 days of not being entered (when the demolition timer is running anyway...)

Those objects are then held by the caretaker NPC for a further 35 days.

As to why there is a limited time to retrieve items, officially they've never said why, but personally I believe it's because housing was supposed to be a gil sink and this way they take money and items worth money out of the system.

More housing is coming just after 4.2 releases, although initially it's only for companies and we're unsure at this point when personal houses can be bought, but what I'm trying to say is you possibly have a little time to get some money together to be ready to get another one.

45 days for the house.
35 days for the items that were removed from the house.
So 80 days total.
