Not dead, but it takes a hit. Nothing stops them from buying the plots as FC houses, which you can still get 8 FC houses on a single service account.
Selling them is easy, give them the money, they add you to the FC and they leave. The house is yours immediately.

Reading too much of the forums makes me very sad and apathetic.
The new rules simply mean that any "alt" characters whom own a private property before patch 4.2 will be able to keep them and they will also be allowed to "relocate" freely to better plots if they manage to get them before anyone else!...
Starting from patch 4.2 "alt" characters will no longer be able to get a private property or a Free Company property if the "main" character already owns either if not both of them!...
I agree with the new impositions but how will they compensate the ones like me whom have alts with enough Gil to buy their own properties and were expecting to do so in the new patch!?...
SE will be pretty much violating every character's right to own their own house and they must do something to fix such arbitrariness, something that could make everyone happy is that they allow all characters under the same account in the same world to share the one house that can be owned!...
I wonder what happens if someone else owns a private FC with a house, adds your alt to the FC and then they leaves the FC to your alt...

What about the people with enough money who really really really saved and worked to get a house... only to buy that house next to 3 people who bough their 3rd, 4th, 5th houses just cause they had enough gil on an alt.... i question this.....
Housing should be achievable to everyone, old player or new player regardless. The fact that people are sitting on many houses more than 2 means they really should learn to share with their fellow gamer....
If it was my call I'd say woops...
But then again the pure definition of an alt makes that statement ambiguous. If you have 4 characters all with max classes, which one by definition in SE's eyes is that main and which is the alt.
It sucks but on the same note, at least they can't flip them either. Anyone who doesn't sell their extra house or whatever by 4.2 will lose any profit.
While you are right on this, a lot of people are going to realize that they'll be in an empty shell of a FC also unless they build that FC up with members. I'd think being in an empty FC isn't going to get one far in content unless their really lucky with pug groups.

"Everyone has something they hold dear, something they never want to lose. That's why they pretend. That's why they hide the truth. And that's why they lie."
Not on the same world though, Its 1 personal house 1 FC house per world account. If you have a character on a world thats part of a FC with a house. Does not matter if they are a Member or the leader, none of their other characters on that world can purchase a FC house. Add in ranking up a FC finding a plot to buy and resell it just wont be worth effort too most people.

This will apply to any plot available for purchase regardless of location. Current owners will be able to relocate but not purchase any new houses. As far as reselling SE is implementing a random timer so that when a plot is relinquished you won't know when it will become available. While not perfect it should put a good size dent in reselling and RMT activity.Wtf... So basically this is gonna apply to wards 13 to 18. Honestly what a silly thing. And what about people flipping their old house on alt to new houses. Will they be stopped, will the system recognise this. Incoming 99% bot wards with that one poor guy who managed to actually get his dream house. Something has to be done about these selfish people
There is nothing selfish about owning more than one house. When SE designed the system it was to allow for a player to own more than one via alts. Multiple house owners are a minority and the majority only own 2 or 3 houses. Instead of pointing your ire at other players who have done nothing wrong you should redirect it at SE. It is SE who designed this lousy housing system and doubled down perpetuating it rather than admit it is a failure and develop a new system that would meet all players needs.
There are a couple of threads on the housing forum talking about this very issue. Alts on the same server need to be able to share houses and enjoy the various benefits that go with it.SE will be pretty much violating every character's right to own their own house and they must do something to fix such arbitrariness, something that could make everyone happy is that they allow all characters under the same account in the same world to share the one house that can be owned!...

You can still get around it if you use two accounts though so long as account 2 purchases the house then leaves the fc to account 1. The FC portion still needs some loopholes filled.
Then that FC effectively becomes the alt's property!...
I doubt SE will bother solving those loopholes unless they manage to mark all characters in the same world and under the same account as "property owners", meaning at least one of them has a Free Company State and cannot become a FC owner under any circumstance in which case the system would give the FC to the next eligible character!...
That sure is complex and not my case, all I want now that my alts can't get their own homes is that SE allows them to share my house with full rights!...
so basically we gonna see loads of alts with loads of fc houses.... noice
Lubbu da mii chan!!!
