This is how it works in game development. You tune stuff until the end and work on different stuff at the same time. Could they have done better at the start? Probably, but i must say compared to other games this game is really balanced.
SCH was without any single doubt the weakest healer at SB lunch and not taking into account that bane nerf and the new cross-class system stripped them of all AoE damage possibilities is the kind of miss you really can't do if you really understand how the class is played.
You have a point with the aoe dmg, but i still disagree that the scholar was the worst healer.
I don't think it's a coicidence either that it was buffed exactly everytime a new more difficult content got out.
The last buffs with succor for instance, was totally unnecessary in many good scholar mains opinions. I agree these changes aren't a coicidence, but i think it comes down to the high skill ceiling and imo many scholar can't get the most out of it. In the right hands, the healer is in its current state the strongest overall. Imo they buff the class for these reasons and not because they think the scholar is to weak.

You don’t actually need to be very good to clear content; you simply need to be able to memorize an encounter and build a limited mental flow chart (totally by design, since they want anyone to be able to clear with enough practice).
One of their mistakes in recent times was the original shake it off skill. Imo this skill was created before the developers decided to remove the debuff of beserk. Square isn't perfect as you said, but overall i respect them for what they do.

Every MMORPG changes constantly (and is probably one of the few times I actually would forgive WoW references). As the longest running and largest (still) MMORPG on the market, you will still find them throwing out changes that make literally no sense to anyone who actively plays the class(es) in question (and are remotely sane). Be it Prot-War woes in Legion, to ShadowPriest shenanigans for two expansions 8+ years ago, I remember having to read some serious head-scratching patch-notes that made me mentally scream "Why? Why? Why?" -- are we to assume that every time this happens in any game, the developers just don't know a class as intricately as the community? I mean, players getting to know the game best is a given (seeing as they're are essentially constant play-testers), but I can't see that being the only reason for 'they dun goofed @ class design'.

Sidenote: Above is not to be taken at face-value. Having worked for AAA-MMORPG's (in non-development roles), I've seen it off-hand in motion. It's more a case of: "You'd think they'd learn, being a business and all, that they should be a bit more careful when it comes to tampering with a product people adore".

Current state of the SCH in particular is weird discussion. Because stratagem, first.

But also because the changes buffed the burst healing nature of the job, wich makes strong but kinda question even more the identity for the SCH to begin with. I've seen someone saying about the old SCH that it felt like trying to keep five plates spinning at the same time, but the current one feel like waiting for planet to align while casting broil 2, knowing they will never align if you mess anything up. this actually a DPS playstyle, on a healer job that already have far more tools than the others. This quite the opposite of what the changes were supposed to do, so I'm pretty sure that it wasn't the intended result at all.

BTW, I'm not saying they are doing a job, I'm pretty sure there's a reason it's like that. Maybe it's a conservative approach arround healing as it's something that could really quickly affect game balance, or because they don't healers to actually quit healing or even because limitation based on how the game was made back in ARR wich makes changes difficult to do.

Considering that there is a thread in the Tank forum generating a back-and-forth between those who see the new SiO as a far superior addition to the Warrior arsenal (myself included), and what one can only assume is a small-minority who seem to want that self-dispel back, we can assume some people took that quote literally.

I don't even main tanks, yet on my brief skits as a Warrior in even somewhat dated content, I could list a wealth of situations where SiO actually has plenty of use. Dispels... Well, us Healers don't need reminding thanks to the Esuna debacle, and how little impact it even has outside of very specific content (to which most Healers walk into without taking Esuna anyway). In my mind - "Does content involve [DOOM]?" (Y/N) - "Yes?" Bleh, I suppose I'll swap in Esuna for that one fight. "N?" - Wait, Esuna is cross-role, now? Oh, cool, I almost forgot I could leave it at home and take something 'useful'.

Yeah, I'm not going to advocate old SiO any time soon.

Anyways, I think SE would benefit from doing some kind of public beta test. That would have resolved some of the issues we had that got addressed almost immediately after SB launch (original SiO, original Plenary Indulgence, etc)

I didn't mind it, ironically, though I was probably too busy making my WCM-PvP series - jokingly shedding light on how broken SP was in PvP (as in 'bad' broken) - enough to not notice how difficult it was to get into any serious teams (outside of one very specific comp) seeing as we were so undesirable at the time.

Again, it's the only time I'd forgive WoW references seeing as every company does this, no matter how big/small the game is, how big the company is, how big its respective community is and how much you'd expect them to have ample resources (even if they don't PLAY the class themselves) to see what/when something needs/doesn't need to be changed -- and this can go on for extensive periods of time, with droves of community members bewailing the problem, going (largely) unheard in most cases.

ShadowPriests were strong/decent in vanilla, relatively weak outside of raids in TBC/WotLK (for many years, largely untouched and unloved), then as any WoW player knows now, they're at their strongest presently in both PvP and PvE since their overhaul sometime back in Cata/MoP. That is a different game, however, though the process applies to all MMORPGS. Things will change - those changes are sometimes good, sometimes bad - and either can last a long, long time (all of which is mostly out of our control). When it comes to Healers in FFXIV, I can't speak for 2/3, but I've been very happy with WHM (in at least a casual sense), whereas I rode that Priest rollercoaster in WoW for 10 years.

Ultimately, I see the Lillie's here in FFXIV as a beneficial perk-system, but nothing I need to live by to succeed. I see the DPS/Healer debate as something that should have been squashed by common-sense years ago. As long as classes (of any description) can contribute to what defeats the content at hand (the foundation of which typically always rotates around 'damage'), then the road is clear. Some don't want to walk it, which is fine - but that doesn't mean those in a competitive/team environment have to like it -- and the developers? Well, they may change it, though I can't see it happening here in FFXIV.
