Garnet's WHM robe in FFIX is what made me fall in love with the Job itself.
So please, please SE! I know it's not an easy thing to do modelling and programming wise, but visors were added to things like the Onion Helm (which were never originally designed for that), so it is possible. Please Yoshi and your wonderful team, please hear our prayers!
PLD's AF1/AF1.5 set does not actually have a hood though, that's just baggy chainmail on the back that forms part of it's collar (presumably that would be extra protection around the neck when worn with a separate helmet.). This is proven by the concept art for the set in the artbook - the concept art for WHM AF1 actually shows art with the hood fully up, but there is no similar art with a full hood on the PLD AF1 set. Meaning it has none I'm afraid.

Why not just allow people to buy a version of it with the hood up, skipping the visor command entirely? Let people buy it from a shop if they have whm at 50 or something.
Or, in the future, take the star velvet hood of healing and modify its texture to go with a matching body piece to get the white w/ red triangle theme. It still allows for long hair and is otherwise functionally identical.
For now you'll have to make do with the Dreadwyrm Hood of Healing, Alexandrian Hood of Healing, White Griffin Hood or Star Velvet hood of healing.
The main problem is that the hoods either come in a multi-slot set that replaces any other head piece (which hasn't been a thing since the end of ARR) or have to be in 2 separate pieces, which requires that the hood and body work as standalone pieces hence the 'closed off hides-your-hair' hood design or the 'flowing veil' shows-your-hair design for later pieces. This CAN be countered by making the body piece high-collared so that if matched with the hood it's seamless but that might require an altogether different armor 3D mesh that isn't in their production pipeline yet.
Do note - every new and unique armor set that gets introduced has to be tested and futureproofed. They have to be able to show and hide many different parts of the mesh to create variants in the armor while maintaining a stable memory footprint. You may see 12 'different' designs using the same 3D mesh, which means the only difference becomes the texture map and visibility tags attached to that armor piece. If they used a texture atlas however, that might change things up even more... but I don't know what their process is like so I can't comment more than this.
While I support the idea of this thread, yeah, gotta agree, adding a "visor" command to a chest piece probably isn't even something they can do. And given how they've moved away from head+chest combos, it's hard to imagine a way for them to add this in any pleasing way, short of perhaps just adding a piece exactly like that for glamour purposes (finish WHM 50, available from some special shop or whatever).
I support seeing it, but I'm not so sure how likely it is given what they have to work with now.
Yup! I didn't even know there was iconic, job specific gear until Garnet. From there, I noticed how they gave everyone in IX the AF gear we know of today. Just variations of it. This franchise has such a lux history that goes back decades now. For some reason though, Garnet stands out. It's that last scene in IX where basically every emotion in the book runs through her in the span of 2 minutes.
Only a WHM can endure that.
This is what I said earlier in the post. If they are going to add it - this is the way they will do it. The model is already in-game on mobs. They can easily add a vendor that lets you buy a version with the hood up (or even the Calamity Salvager once you completed the level 50 quest). With the new glamour system coming this method will work for both that wants a hood up or down.
Then with that gearset, you have /visor to remove the circlet or not that is still on the hood model that the mobs have.
I think this would be a great idea, and maby even for a few other sets!!
The White Mage robe with the hood up looks so cozy and warm. I've been trying to make something similar with my current glam, but it just not the same.
