That changes a lot now since tanks got braver, but once-upon-a-time 90% of raid tanks would chicken out, so it was an unspoken rule that B was the tank forced to do it lol. Was the only way to make sure bosses wouldn't just pick off the top DPS until a tank finally had more aggro than the barrel-bottom DPS. XD

Edit: anyway, point is people absolutely should be able to just adjust to the new letter positions. But lots of people have had the A, B, C formation drilled into their heads for a year (or more) from doing it that way in the lvl 60 24-man raids. Suddenly having it switched up is confusing to us. XD It's kind of annoying sometimes, tanks now fight over boss aggro and keep getting us DPS killed with cleaves while turning them. XP I just had a run an hour ago where a tank in another alliance killed 3 healers (2 of them in my party) this way lol. This kind of group assignment is designed to prevent issues like that.

With other forum users. That's how I learned it, from a random post somewhere on the forums(honestly can't remember which one it was). But it has come in handy quite a bit in good ol' Rabanasty.

I've been trying to get the scholar book from Castrum Abania and some friends were nice enough helping me - no luck though and after two runs we decided to give Shisui a go instead, so my samurai could get the challenge log exp. One friend goes war, the other mcn so we get a random healer.
A level 66 scholar with ast and drk at 70.
    A level 66 scholar using a Padjal-Book.
    And ilvl230 headpiece and belt.
    And ilvl230 necklace and wristband.
    ...aaaaand two ilvl115 tank-rings.

I grumble about it in voicechat, so my tank-friend asks them if they can put on any decent gear for their class and level - being replied to with that their gear isnt our concern and that my friend should "stfu and tank".
At this point we pretty much decided on a vote kick after the next pull and I use the chance to remind them about vendor and poetics gear... to be replied to with "Maybe I'm waiting for 70 to gear up" and "stfu do I look as if I care?"

Well... we most certainly didnt care for the healer to stick around, the next minute they're gone and our WHM friend comes in to finish the rest of the dungeon with us.

We wouldnt even have kicked the scholar over the bad gear if it wasnt paired with such a shitty attitude. But that wasnt something I wanted to deal with tonight. If you cant be bothered to at the very least get your ass to an NPC vendor and buy some gear for your class and level there, I cant be bothered to run any dungeon with you.

So, I just had a frustrating Alliance Roulette this evening. It dumped me into World of Darkness, which I happen to like, despite the propensity of people to completely muck it up. I get a fellow AST for my co-healer, which is fine. I immediately choose my preferred sect of Nocturnal and off we go. I notice during the first trash pack that the other AST has yet to choose a sect. No biggie! I'm guilty of forgetting sects/stances/etc. sometimes too. I typed a simple, "Hey SoandSo, you might want to put Diurnal Sect on." They're silent. I'm a bit confused, as they also aren't using cards and have chosen to hold onto an Ewer card in their reserve of all things. We get to the Floaty McEye boss and they finally type, "Thank you," and I'm all smiles thinking they headed my advice.

    They step into Nocturnal Sect.

So of course my initial reaction is to reach through the screen and strangle them. So we spend the fight overwriting each others shields, which I mean, who doesn't love that? People of course fail one things after another: not stepping out of the flare/death markers, not killing the adds, and it's just a general shit show overall. We pull through somehow and make our way forward. I figure rather than try to explain the difference between Nocturnal/Diurnal to someone who has already demonstrated they don't grasp their job very well and the importance of differing sects with two ASTS, let alone using any of their cards, I'll just switch sects. Fast forward to the second boss and I look over and what do I see?

    They're in Diurnal Sect now.

Like, can you not? Cut to the final boss and one wipe later due to people deciding not to stand in the meteor circles, we finish it on the next attempt and I'm climbing over people in my race for the exit. I can understand if you're new, but this healer was 60+ running this old ass content. Few things ignite the fiery rage inside of me more than an incompetent co-healer.

Maybe it's a good thing they never used cards... Someone too dumb to use the sect you weren't using would probably overwrite all your AoE Balances with an AoE Spire.

I just had the best Rabanastre run I've ever been into. The DPS was so good that we skipped azure guards at Mateus, second sand sphere at Hashmal, second circles & bleeding at Rofocale, and Argath died within seconds after the whole-alliance misdirection attack. We wiped once at Rofocale cause we forgot to put markers for the adds stage, but we had a good laugh about it.

If I timed the run correctly (I only used my remaining food duration to measure this, so it may not be 100% accurate), I think the whole run lasted for about 31min including the wipe at Rofocale. I'd reckon this kind of run would be a lot more common once we outgear the content, but it was still one of the most enjoyable runs I've ever had

I had a pretty fun run of Ranbanasty earlier.

Even though people were dying all over the place everyone was pretty nice and there was a lot of joking. I even formed a mini-paternal bond with a DRG in my group because I ressed them so many times and they thanked me almost every time. <3

There was one funny back and forth between a NIN in my group and a SAM in another group: The NIN asked why someone pulled Hashmal early (we didn't wipe) and he swears he saw a DRG do it. The SAM piped up and started swearing a lot because how dare the NIN think it was a Dragoon. It was obviously a "Hamurai" (HAM for short) who pulled the boss. It was funny because everyone was generally having a good time about the early pull.

But then the BLM in my group had to be dick. The NIN (again) in my group told everyone he needed to pee so he would be a minute before we could pull Argath. The BLM piped up and said "He's been dead almost this whole run. We'd be better off without him. Even the tanks and healers are doing better than him..." Oookay... Everyone just ignored him. But of course he had to say something after we cleared... The NIN joked and said he "nailed it" and was "the best". Obviously poking fun at himself for his large number of deaths and low DPS. Yeah, the BLM replied with "no you're not" and "almost everyone in the raid did better than you".

It's like... seriously? From what I can gather I'm assuming the BLM was possibly using a parser (so was I but...) and turned into an ass about it. RIGHT after I filled out HyoMin's survey saying I have never seen harassment due to a parser. =/

I'm an AST. The other day I ran Rabanastre with a AST who kept running around in circles, in and out of AOEs, they kept casting benefic over and over without any reason. They didn't bother with a sect, didn't pull any cards, didn't take notice of any mechanics. They kept dying over and over, and they even ported back to the start of the raid with the boss still at 95% health. They then were absent for everything because they actually got lost on their way back. I tried talking with them to see if I could help, but they didn't reply. I honestly got to the point I thought it was a bot. I said this in chat, but it turned out that they had friends in the alliance, and they were just 'back after a long break'. They couldn't be kicked as they were with so many friends. I essentially solo-healed the entirety of Rabanastre.

    I didn't get even one comm. /bitter

I feel like I'm in the minority of ASTs who actually 1. check to see if cards are already applied and wait for timers, and 2. check what cards the other AST has drawn to see if they're likely to use them. When you meet one who actually notices you, it's always a joyous occasion

In my case it isn't particularly helpful, but I very much appreciate you trying to help . I know how to tank in MMO's (as in I know how hate works, that position matters, etc....).I just needed practice actually doing it in this game, and mostly building confidence and learning not to panic.
Depending how new you are, you might not be able to tell the difference of the sarcasm/satire and how to apply it to things.

The reason it is helpful to know other jobs abilities to some extent is because you do not want to run into this issue:
    https://youtu.be/L2wt7xb0HiI?t=263
When I was new they did creep me out and I would run away from them. But they are aoes players use and should try keep the monsters in then.

in general, if you are pulling a group of monsters, hit them at max distance with shield lob/tomahawk/unmended, then when they get near , use flash/overpower/ unleash. Just be aware you never see the exact positions of monsters due to the servers being slow, and can miss. A lot of tanks do not understand this and when those tanks meet min/max DPS players, those players will take hate because the aoe ability missed. This is why some tanks may sit at a pack for a sec to make sure they hit them all before moving on to the next group. After 2 or 3 packs just make sure you keep them facing the monsters away from the group.

in 90% of the situations should look like this:
    Range DPS/healer > > > ..> Melee DPS >monster or groups of monsters facing >.<You

That is common, the premade group did not like you calling out their friend. Shocked they did not kick you with the stuff I hear.

People do troll. It is likely what that person was doing. When they first put one up, ya that can be a mistake but changing to the one you changed to? they did it to troll. You never know you might even ran into a preformed group with the intent to troll and miss mechanics on purpose.
