You can blame the community for whining for classic FF jobs, without taking lore into consideration. Now instead of interesting classes like thaumaturge and pugilist, we're getting generic stuff like black mage and monk.

The community bitched about classic FF jobs because the classes in their current state (even now) have ZERO personality, lore or not. You can pile 1,000 more hours into the THM storyline lore-wise if you want, then play the class and feel nothing like one. You don't feel like a badass wielder of life and death, you feel like you just clicked 1, maybe throw in a 3, then 5, and then tossed a regen-based heal.
As a MRD, I have done 3 class-quests all dealing with me being a pirate. Do I have any pirate-style abilities? A couple. Is my armor stylized to look like a pirate? Nope. It's not the names people bitched about, it's the classes themselves. They have no "feel" to what they're supposed to be. Hopefully this upcoming patch will bring in the era where classes "play as intended".
And honestly, AGAIN, why in the heck would I prioritize lore over the game being fixed? Without the current game to play, I wouldn't give a crap about the lore. That's like saying "Oh my GOD, Archer is SO BROKEN...Oh well, at least it's lore is intact." It's a fantasy game. Things can be rewritten and changed.

Insulting people in the counter argument isn't going to change their minds. It will make them stick harder to their opinion regardless of whether or not it's right, and think less of your opinion simply because you insulted them. In essence, if you want to try and change someone's mind, come up with a well thought-out response and don't be a dick.

And I'm sure it will be refined by 2.0 to your liking. Who ever said there won't be lore in the future? It just simply won't be the -exact- same as it is right now. I'd rather the lore be changed and refined now during the "FFXIV Revival" process. Yoshida's team has been having to deal with Tanaka's dead game, and with that..treasure.. came the original lore of a broken game. As a new team, I feel they have a right to change it while they're changing the game into their own.

I also care about Lore in a Fantasy Game, but I don't care about the Lore of FFXIV as it exists now, or rather how it doesn't exist. It's just a big mess in my opinion...and boring.
I would be pleasantly surprised if they can come up with a good transition into a different lore but at this point I could live with the "we existed in a snow globe in the mind of a special needs Lalafell" ending.

XIV has fantastic lore. Your solution to SE not actually making the lore visible in-game would be to... axe it altogether to replace it with worse lore that still won't be visible anywhere. Great job.

I had nor do I have a suggestion for replacing the lore. I just don't like the current "story" all that much so I don't care if 2.0 comes with a completely different storyline and lore to back it up.
You may like the current lore...I do not.

I always love these types of responses. Normally I ignore them but I will take the bait this time.
I am only a Lv35 Archer because I find the game in it's current state extremely boring so I don't play very much. I have been playing since November 2010 and could easily have every Class at 50 if the game were interesting enough to merit that much of a time investment.
Soon they will be asking me to pay to continue playing and after these Class Changes are in place if the game is funner and more interesting, I will pay and play more.
Someone replied to one of my early critiques of this game by saying, "...maybe this game is just not for you...". That was certainly true at the time and I probably would have never played again except that SE agreed with the vast majority of people who felt the game was not fun and so they have been making drastic changes to it.
I have stuck around to see how it all ends up and I hope to be pleasantly surprised at how good it becomes ( I am impressed so far). Personally, I am glad that I still have several Classes at Lv1 so I can fully enjoy the FFXIV Reboot, but you are right...since I have less time invested in the Lore of the game I have less to lose but I (and everyone) have much to gain if the game is better and more people subscribe.
If it takes some Lore bending and reshaping to make this game successful, I am ok with that. That's all I'm saying.
p.s. I'm pretty sure that at Lv35 I have only 2 more Main Story Quests to get me immersed in this wonderful Lore you speak of. Class Quests I will do when the Classes are more fun to play (hopefully post 1.20).
